  • Feedback on component compatability PLEASE!!!

I've been having a multitude of problems/issues with this new build had 4 items RMA'd and even sent the Mobo back to manuf and they said the problem was a bad CPU chipset....

here's what i've got and i cannot for the life of me even try to install any of the following: Win XP Pro 32bit, Vista Business 32bit, 7 64bit.

All freeze trying to install and give me BSOD, and restart, and more BSOD.

    Components include:
EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
    Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80580Q9400
Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA Model AD-7240S-0B - OEM
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5C G - Retail

I've researched the hell out of the components and to me, they all seem compatable with eachother. So why, with a fixed board and working components am I STILL not able to install any Windows OS??????

BTW, since I cannot load an OS it wont read any other CD, i.e. Gigabyte mobo cd. Additionally, the BIOS is updated at F11.

cant update chipset until i get some OS working. I do have 2 drives, a new DVD drive, and an older CD IDE drive. both drives have been used to install the OS, and both have caused problems. Also, the CD, DVD drives and HDD (1 SATA, 1 IDE) are set appropriately to Master/slaves. In BIOS, what should be set to allow SATA drives???? thanks for the feedback

Try with one memory module only.
              Load BIOS optimized defaults.
In M.I.T set Performance Enhance standard, and X.M.P disanled.
If you not intend to have a RAID configuration leave SATA settings on defaults.
See if you can install OS.

Re: Feedback on component compatability PLEASE!!!

well my RAM only works without errors if the settings are set at Turbo, and Disabled when I run Memtest. Also, i have to change from 5-7-7-2? to 5-5-5-15 or 18(cant remember what it was) and mess with the memory voltage from 1.8v to 2.0 to 2.1v.

so you think i should STILL change the settings back to Default and go with that??

I wasn't suggesting just going to defaults.

DRAM Voltage was probably 2.1v by default anyway (you can verify by loading optimized defaults, reboot, and see what it is in PC Health Status.)

Bump for a new question regarding the video card and mobo stability issue:

Is it possible, even though EVGA states the card works on this Mobo, that the video card is causing the random freezes, boots, BSOD when trying to install an OS?????
