  • EX-58 UD5 Overclocking

I'm new to overclocking and need a bit of help.

I've overclocked my CPU to 4.00 ghz. With my cooling system I'm getting an idle temp of 40C. Is this normal?

I can play my favorite stress testing games (FSX,Crysis) both maxed for up to 5 hrs, but when I run OCCT I don't last 2 minutes. The test stops because the program says the CPU is too hot. I checked with ET6 and my CPU is in the 60s when this happens. Prime95 went 2 hrs before I stopped it to run the Crysis benchmarl

Last thing, I notice when I overclock, the fans whirr 3 times before starting. Am I not providing enough voltage? I've set a vCore of 1.43125. I used a Gigabyte guide to overclocking the EX58 with the i7. Other forums seem to say don't go over 1.45. I keep adding voltage but it isn't stable. I need some input before I go adding more voltage. I'd like to have this PC live for at least 4 years maybe replacing the CPU in a few years if an affordable 1366 CPU comes out.

are you using realtemp or coretemp as easytune will only give you the cpu temp and not the actual core temps, you can add a good 10-15c on top of easytune readings as its not taking them from the internal chip sensors, are you using the latest bios? and is it a d0 or a c0 chip? use cpuz to tell you

      Re: EX-58 UD5 Overclocking

I've updated the post with all my sys info in my sig. I have coretemp and realtemp but I didn't realize you used the core temp not the CPU temp.

I also noticed that when I overclocked the fans speed up 3 times on boot. Does this have anything to do with voltage? I'm concerned as this doesn't happen at stock clocks.

      Thanks again for your help.

it depends sometimes its normal to double boot on start up as it checks the bios first then reboots and loads into windows, what bios version u have? as newer bios's are best

I set vCore to 1.35 and qpi to 1.355 since the next one down is 1.335. It booted and as soon as I clicked my name to login I got a bsod with something about an uncorrectable hardware error.

did you try with more qpi voltage? try with 1.38000 youll need to adjust to suit,is system performance enhance on standard?ifnot put it at that

It is on standard. I tried 1.395 for QPI since it won't let me do 1.38 exact, but it was giving me uncorrectable hardware error BSODs. I've gotta type a paper so I'll give it a rest for tonite at stock.

What about my temps. I'm currently at 3.8 Ghz with 38.5 average of all 4 cores in coretemp. Is this good for cooling?

yeah thats ok temps, its just a matter of tweaking qpi voltages to get 4ghz and maybe a bit more cpu v,im stable with 1.18750cpuv at 3.8ghz,but 4ghz will need more
