I'm new to overclocking and need a bit of help.
I've overclocked my CPU to 4.00 ghz. With my cooling system I'm getting an idle temp of 40C. Is this normal?
I can play my favorite stress testing games (FSX,Crysis) both maxed for up to 5 hrs, but when I run OCCT I don't last 2 minutes. The test stops because the program says the CPU is too hot. I checked with ET6 and my CPU is in the 60s when this happens. Prime95 went 2 hrs before I stopped it to run the Crysis benchmarl
Last thing, I notice when I overclock, the fans whirr 3 times before starting. Am I not providing enough voltage? I've set a vCore of 1.43125. I used a Gigabyte guide to overclocking the EX58 with the i7. Other forums seem to say don't go over 1.45. I keep adding voltage but it isn't stable. I need some input before I go adding more voltage. I'd like to have this PC live for at least 4 years maybe replacing the CPU in a few years if an affordable 1366 CPU comes out.
