    HELP | GA-945PL-S3 with 2 graphics cards

    Hi,

    I have the GA-945PL-S3 motherboard which has only 1 PCI-E slot.
    In the PCI-E slot I have a 8800GTS card, which has 2 monitors running off it.

    I need a third screen, so I bought myself a GeForce 5200 FX PCI card.

    I put this card into one of the PCI slots, so everything is now plugged in and ready to go.

    Now when I turn on my machine, both the CPU fan and the fan on the 8800GTS card spin at full speed (They normaly do this for about 10 seconds and then slow down), but now they do it perminatly when I have the 5200FX card installed.

    Also the machine boots up fine but only the 5200 FX card is outputing an image to the screen.

    I havent kept the machine on for longer than a few mins, because I am afraid that somthing maybe getting damaged.

    Does anyone have any ideas as to why the fans are spinning full speed now and not slowing down?

    you might need to update the bios with a new card,do you have the latest bios and do you know how to flash it with qflash? if not read on main page on how to do it

      ok I am flashing the newest bios onto it as I type. I am using the @bios program as I dont have a floppy drive in the machine.

      I will let you know if this fixes the issue or not.

        sadly updateing the bios hasnt fixed the issue.
        The fans still run at full speed when I switch on and stay at full speed.

        Is this setup is possible??
        Does the motherboard allows both a PCI and PCI-E card to be run at the same time?

        I am more worried at the moment, as to why the fans are running flat out than why only the 5200 FX PCI card is only giving output, although I havnt setup the card in the OS yet, as I am afraid to leave it running that long.

        I have also tried taking out the PCI-E card (8800GTS) and only run the PCI card and the CPU fan settles down after the first 10 seconds or so (which it should).

        So why do the fans run full speed only when both cards are installed??

          i dont know,is it a pci card or a pci-e card? dont you have two pci-e slots??

            The 8800GTS is PCI-E but the 5200FX is PCI (the standard PCI).

            The reason I got a PCI card is because the motherboard doesnt have 2 PCI-E slots.


            Does anyone know what would cause fans to run at full speed and not throttle down??

            Is having both PCI-E and PCI graphics cards installed, doing somthing with the temperature monitoring, and causing it to think it needs to run the fans at full speed?

              By plugging in a standard PCI card, would this disable the PCI-E slot?
