  • help with ram freq and timings

    hi i am owner of a gigabyte ex 58 ud5 with f9 bios,cpu i7 920 ,ram ocz3p2000lv6gk 9-9-9-30 1,65 volt ,and 5850.

all i want is to set the ram freq at 1600 and good timings(no cpu oc yet).i tryed to do that with system memory multiplier from bios.ok worked but the timings were high.. 10 ,8 ,8 ,22 (at auto. i didn't change them cause i was afraid possible damage) i thought it will be lower cause at 2000 gives 9-9-9-30... maybe i am wrong.

    any help with that?

tell me if i have to post more info about hardware

sorry but i am new to oc :)

Re: help with ram freq and timings

With bclk at 133, set the memory multiplier to 12 (12x133=1600). Manually set the timings to 8-8-8-24 and leave the rest on auto. You won't hurt anything.

dont leave ram voltage on auto though as it will overvolt, set it to 1.66 which is 1.64 actual voltage

Re: help with ram freq and timings

        i did it.8 8 8 24 at 1.64 ...cpu-z says that at 1333 ram can give 8 8 8 19 trc 31 at 1.5 volt.
maybe ram can give better timings than 8 8 8 24 at 1600 1.64 volt ...what do you think?

btw should i change trc too?i don't know what is it...
and thanks for your quick reply.

Re: help with ram freq and timings

Well you bought DDR3 2000 ram to run it at 1333 would be a waste of $$. 19 or 24 isn't going to make any noticeable difference except perhaps in benchmarks. But I would try lower volts maybe it will run at 1.5v at 8-8-8-24. You could also try setting command rate to 1T which will improve memory bandwidth. Can you post a screenshot of the CPU-Z memory SPD tab? If your ram has an XMP profile for DDR3 2000 perhaps we can actually get it running there.

Re: help with ram freq and timings

I don't see an XMP profile for DDR3 2000, just the four JEDEC specs. Are you able to scroll over in the CPU-Z SPD tab? No XMP? I would think if they are selling it as DDR3 2000 it would have XMP. If not you will have to set everything manually, which is going to be hit or miss. Try setting memory multi to 14, Uncore multi to 28, Vdimm to 1.66, QPI to ~1.3-1.4, timings to 9-9-9-30, auto the rest. To be honest if you are happy with 1600 I would stay there.

Re: help with ram freq and timings

hi i read your post when i came back home at night and tryed to do that.but i forgot to set Uncore multi to 28 QPI to ~1.3-1.4.and start the bip sound...nevermind.i am trully happy with the 1600.i set the ram volt at 1.56 and works fine until now. so i am thinking to keep those settings until i want to play a game with high specifications.
btw what is the H/W down right at the mobo?? sometimes gives 75 and FF what's that?

That is an LED post code indicator. Your manual will tell you what the various symbols mean. Memory at 1600 is plenty, if you want more performance for games you can overclock the CPU, 3.6 -3.8 GHz should be fairly easy.

                              ok i found it. :)
now at 1600 should i leave it there??what about the lifetime of the mobo and ram?and if i try to hit timing like 7 7 7 16 should i change the uncore and QPI too?i am thinking to install the easytune.maybe i can do those thing with this.
