EP45-DS3R + QX9650 - spontaneous reboots

I get spontaneous reboots - no BSOD - roughly once a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. Once in a while I get a BSOD too but I think this is connected to a MS net framework issue.

I'm not interested in overclocking, I just need stablilty. This has been going on for about a year and a half!!!! Any help would be GREATLY

Have you ran memtest86+ to check the memory?
What is PC Health Status reading for DDR voltage? Other voltages as well.
What CPU/Sytem temps you have under load?
Try to set Performance Enhance to standard and increase MCH Core graduately up to 1.24v.
A screen capture of MemSet main(click >>) and SPD(click spd) windows will be helpful.

Yep The first thing would be to turn your Performance Enchance to Standard. And probably at the same time increase your MCH Voltage. That is possibly all you will need. Also sometimes when you get a blue screen its only displayed for like a frame before the computer reboots. If your running XP go to properties on My Computer and under the "Advanced" Tab, then "Startup And Recovery" uncheck the "Automatically restart" button this bill keep the blue screen up untill you press the off button on your computer. If its blue screening which I believe it is then it may help to know why. (or press F8 while windows is loading and select "dont restart on system failure" or something like that.) If its a driver or hardware thing. I think your ram settings will probably fix it.

Chike, I set Performance Enhance to "Standard" and cranked the MCH core up to the next notch - 1.160v. Got a no-blue screen reboot after 5 minutes but am running since (5 hours) with no problem.

I have a screen capture of my Memset readings but - and I feel sheepish and frustrated - I can't manage to paste it into my message...and while I'm already feeling stupid, as for...

Nimrod (name of one of my sons), I enabled mini dumps many moons ago. These are mostly no-blue screen reboots.

You can attach it to the post if it is small enough, or use an image sharing service and post the link, they usually provide a forum link.
I use tinypic.com myself.

Have you ran memtest86+ yet, if not run it for 6+ passes, if it fails run it on all memory sticks individually, then a pair in slots 1 & 3 and the other in slots 2 & 4. Mark the sticks so you would know which you have tested and where.

Could be not a memory issue after all but it's easy to check and a point to start from.

I must admit,I dont follow the :"Im not interested in overclocking" posters.
Just buy a proprietary dell,packard/whatever pc .probably better value for money.It will have cheaper ram,which is all you need etc .
The machine will take cpu upgrades of the same class etc.

My last packard bell had a gigabyte mbrd,unlisted of course because v limited bios adjustment.

Anyway nm.
At standard settings bang in say 1.28 V in bios for the cpu,1.84-1.9 V for the memory to ensure its happy on turbo .
That should get those 2 items out of the mix.
Then if the reboot ever happens again increase your mch voltage another notch,until it stops.

At those low settings you shouldnt have to take anything else off auto.

You may not be interested in OC'ing, but a Bios update to F11e might help.

Make a bootable USB flash disk, using HP Format Tool and DOS files found anywhere on net, format using system files found on DOS files extracted somewhere, then extract the contents from F11e package in the root of your USB flash disk. Boot from your USB Flash Disk and bios update will be kicked automatically.

I use my PC for CAD work - the QX9650 and my ATI 4850 should be plenty for me, and stable, I thought, at standard speed. I know the CPU is more of a thoroughbred than I need but hey, my wife works at Intel and I (she) got it for free as an employee perk.

An Intel contractor put the system together but I'm wondering if there might be a hardware incompatibility - sort of like running a Honda with a Maserati engine dropped in. My Honda is an Antec Sonata III 500w with an extra front-fitted 120mm fan.

Speed: 3005 MHz

Ran Memtest86+ last night on all four sticks together - 17 passes, 0 errors.

No reboots since I set Performance Enhance to Standard and MCH core to 1.160v. That's five days and counting. Prior to that my reboots were more or less daily...

ehhhhhhh, it looks like my enthusiasm was premature. After almost two weeks of no crashes, I had two no-blue-screen reboots the day before yesterday.

After the first one I cranked the MCH up another notch to 1.180. Crashed again after ten minutes. Now, two days later, another no-blue-screen crash.

Puzzling to me that after raising the MCH to 1.160 I managed almost two uneventful weeks and now I seem to be back to where I was before...
