  • Gigabyte P35-DS3P not working with 4 modules OCZ Gold XTC PC6400 (4x1Gb)

    hi!
so here's the problem... for the past year i ignored this problem since i had no time to try to fix it, so yesterday i decided to give it a shot... previously i had the "infinite reebot" when trying to start the pc with all modules (while it worked perfectly with 2). but yesterday it decided to boot without problems.. so i became interested and decided to test with memtest86 (v3.2). first i tested 2 modules, then the other 2, they all passed with no errors, then i decided to put all 4, and it showed me 90k+ errors (or was it 9k, not sure :P ) despite it boots with no problem. then i decided to reinstall windows, but got stuck at "setup is starting..." (with 4 modules, windows 7 32bit), BUT installed flawlessly with 2 modules.

    the rig:

    Gigabyte p35-ds3p
    Intel Q6600 at 2.4 w/ Thermaltake BigTyphoon 120
    OCZ Gold XTC PC6400 4x1Gb
    Powercolor Radeon 3870 PCS
    Western Digital Caviar Blue 500Gb
    Seagate ST410AS 250Gb (Windows 7, 32bit)

nothing is overclocked, everything is pretty much at its default options (except work w/ USB mouse, kboard xD)

so... is it the settings problem? is it the motherboard? i doubt it's the RAM itself, considering they work 2 at a time, and showing no errors.

    thx in advance!

p.s. forgive me if there's an explanation to this problem, I searched and found nothing similar enough to this problem.

Test 2 modules in slots 2 & 4 to verify there is no problem with the slots.
Use memtest86+ instead. It is updated and compatible with latest hardware.

Please post full BIOS settings using the template from this post.

Set Performance Enhance standard (if you have this option).
Try to increase MCH Core, somewhere between +0.05 and +0.15 should get you stable.

A screen capture of MemSet main(click >>) and SPD(click spd) windows will be helpful. Also fill your forum signature with your system specs, including a link to ram specs on manufacturer site if possible.

MemSet and memtest86+ and other programs can be downlowd from http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284762

This morning I tested 2 modules in slot 2 & 4 with memtest86+, no errors.
tested all 4 modules with memtest86+, bunch of errors.

2 mins ago, increased MCH Core +0.1

I'll fill the BIOS template tomorrow and run a few tests, it's 3am atm.

The odd thing is, everything seems pretty much normal, I can run programs normally. Actually, if I hadn't had previous problems, atm I wouldn't suspect that anything is wrong... I'll run a few more tests and be back with a template hoping it will help you help me. btw., thx a WHOLE LOT!

What does PC Health report for memory voltage? If it's 1.8v try to DDR2 OverVoltage +0.05 / +0.1 also.

and got CRC errors when I tried to unrar some bigger files. I forgot to mention that I used to have these errors before.
and yes, voltage said 1.8, added +0.1.

Was it showing 1.8v for +0.2 DDR2 OverVoltage?
BTW what is the board revision and what BIOS version is installed?
I see you list "High Speed DRAM DLL" does the BIOS has both this option and the Performance Enhanhance and timings?
Though I am not sure how tRD of P35 compare to the P4x you can try set it manually to (one value higher, less performance, more stable)
