  • GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

    Good morning all,

I would like to share my problems with my setup with you all and see if you have any pointers. At the moment my setup consists of the following components:
    • GA-EP45-DS3P (E9C BIOS release)
    • 8GB Kingston (2 x KHX8500DK2/4G)
    • Intel Q6700
    • 2 x 500GB RAID 0 Seagate
    • Palit Nvidia GT240
    • AC Freezor 7 Pro cooler
    • Cooler master case
    • Antec 400W silent PSU
    • Windows 7 64 bit Ult
The system was built around easter time and since then I have been suffering from BSODs. To try and combat this I have had a new board, GPU, RAM (replaced Cosair 8GB yesterday) and tried lots of suggestions from the forums around voltages/settings etc

After reading many of the posts by others and lots of advice from people on this forum I seem to be missing something. I'm not an expert PC builder but I've never had a machine causing instabilities like this.

At the moment I don't care about overclocking and would like to get the machine to run correctly without BSODs every couple of days.

The BSODs vary from - BAD_POOL_HEADER & INVALID_PAGE_FAULT - people may say check the memory I have tried 2 brands with new stuff added yesterday I also RMA'ed the old stuff.

Here's my settings so far (I guess they need some adjustments?)

    Thank you for any help.

    Re: GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

Please re-check the posted settings, some are bogus, like CPU Frequency and CPU Host Frequency.
Is this your ram? If not please find the link to it's specs.
Try MCH Core 1.2-1.28v, more DRAM Voltage may be needed, try setting it manually to ram sepc voltage.

Please add your system specs to your forum signature, including a link to ram specs.
A screen capture of MemSet main(click >>) and SPD(click spd) windows will also be helpful.
MemSet can be downloaded from http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284762

      Thanks for your prompt response.

I will check the settings I noted using the template of another post and look set the settings recommended by yourself.

      Will update.

        Re: GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

Run a few passes of memtest86+ before starting windows.
It won't detect all wrong settings but will if there a major problem with them.
Memory problems may lead to corrupted files/file system, so ot's better to avoid them as possible.

            Re: GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

The ram is rated 1066 and currently running at 800. Try to get it stable at 800 and then maybe 1066 which may not be possible with 8GB.
            If you still having problems:
            Set Performance Enhance standard
            Try more DRAM Voltage 1.9-2.1v
Increase MCH Core graduatly up to 1.3v

Please add the ram data sheet link to your signature.

                Re: GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

                Hello,

I need to still update my signature (sorry)

Tried RAM @ 1066 running 4GB worked, but 8GB would not boot. I managed to get it working by giving the RAM 2.3 Volts but this caused a BSOD......

4GB works but I'm guessing 8GB with these strict timings may not be possible.

                  Re: GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

Try DDR-800 first, this should be easier to achive. with default 5-5-5-18 tnen tighter timings 4-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-12. Won't be much difference from 1066 if at all with 266FSB.
When you manage a stable settings save BIOS profile (F11 in main BIOS screen) that is easy to restore (F12 in main BIOS screen).

Without the setting used there is not much to comment about, so please post them each time you want an advise.

                      Re: GA-EP45-DS3P - BSOD/Stability problems

I agree, 8GB is just not going to run at 1066 without crazy voltages, best to try for 800-1000

For 8GB you may need to use 1.24-1.3 MCH Core

Cheers for replies (I know I still need to update my signature).

Tried 4gb @ 1066 and it ran ok, but with 8GB would not boot, as you have stated will cause issues.

Running 8GB at 800mhz and been running ok all day today, will get a more detailed update with setting tomorrow/Wednesday.

                        Cheers

Ya, I would actually start with 800-900 maybe for 8GB, like you have. Then once you get it stable that way you could try more.

Good luck tweaking and post back anytime once you get time and if you need more help

Thanks for all of the input so far, its seems to have improved the stability of the system.

Since Monday I have had no BSOD and the machine has been entering sleep and waking up with sucess. I have also upped the processor speed. I didnt manage to get the memory running @ 1066 with 8GB (4GB worked) so I worked on the timings.

I assume running as these timings settings is better than stock? How does the rest of the settings look?

Still need to let Prime run over night, but have used machine normaly with know problems.

                            Cheers all.

Can you please post a screen capture of CPU-Z CPU tab, and also one of EasyTune -> Tuner -> advanced > Voltage tab?
There no E6700 quad processor AFAIK.
Timings look ok, check what Performance Level MeSet show, you may be able to set it as low as 5 (Static tRead Value in BIOS).
Have you tried higher MCH Core for DDR-1066? also try to set Driving Strength 1066 for both channels, and more DRAM Voltage.
What are the load core temperatures for current OC?
