  • RAM timings on P55 UD6

    Hi everybody!
    quite exited about the knowledge present on this forum.
    My question is the following:
    just bought a new system based on the P55-UD6, Intel i5 750 and Corsair ram modules p/n CMG4GX3M2A1600C7.
    I started with 2x2 GB RAM modules that I succeed to push up to 2200 MHz, having a nice 4Ghz system. Recently I bought 2 additional RAM modules (same kind) having a total of 4x2=8 GB installed. Here starts my issue. Initially the system would not boot, then loosening the timings made the system bootable. Actually I have the memory frequency set at 1760 MHz, higher frequencies will result in system failure (reboot and settings to safety value in BIOS). What are the BIOS settings I have to work with in order to increase the RAM frequency? I suppose I have to give more information, but I don't know exactly what, just ask me and I will provide them

    8GB is just not going to run like that, maybe 1600 or so or a bit higher with looser timings, but no where near 2000Mhz.

    You would need a high QPI/Vtt and to increase your PCH a little, you may also need more Vdimm as well depending on how far you push things.

    If you do get BSOD's this should help you determin what you need to change
    BSOD Error codes and what they mean:
    0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi
    0X00000124 << Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage (To Much/Not Enough)
    0X00000101 << Not enough Vcore Voltage


    If you try things and have no luck, give me your full settings you are trying and I will advise back. Template to do so is in my signature

      thank you very much for the useful information. Because I belong to the old school overclocker (Celeron 300 Mhz, do you remember?) I would like you to check my BIOS settings. Thank you in advance for the support you can give me.

        Yes, I remember overclocking back in the old school days! Much has changed eh :)

        For now I will advise you on the settings you gave, if you want to try higher freq let me know what you want to try and I will advise back

        Your high Bclk may be causing the issues, some CPU's just cannot run that speed 24/7. Just FYI for you to think about

You should find USB legacy or storage detect. It only needs disabled for troubleshooting though really so you are fine if you cannot find it.

          Thank you SOOO much for the advices... I will try them asap and I will let you know. I am basically satisfied with my system, but my overclocker nature is keeping me pushing my pc to the extreme. By the way, I dont know why my system sometimes reboot very quickly but it can happen that it takes almost minutes...maybe because I set the memory timings to auto?

              Ok,
              I changed the settings as you suggested. The system will boot with the memory settings but the command rate will not be changed (2T instead of 1T); I checked it with CPUIZ. The memory bandwidth is unchanged (around 22GHz in Sisoft Sandra) but the latency has been improved somewhat (56 ns now). Regarding the USB legacy, I found USB legacy function and USB storage function, I disabled both but I suppose that maybe something can be wrong if I would like to enter and modify BIOS settings if I have no access to my wireless USB keyboard & mouse, isn't it? If so I can reenable it? CMOS reset?

                CPU-z may not properly show the command rate.

                Use Memset and see what it says

                Or everest ultimate

                You only need to disable Legacy USB, and really only if you are having issues.

                Yes sounds like you will need to clear your CMOS, or plug in a PS/2 mouse to access the BIOS and change that USB setting back

                  I checked with Everest (memset doesn't support i5, strange?) and also there command rate 2T is shown. Maybe the setting is too tight for the frequency (1760 Mhz) so 1T is discarded.
                  My strange looong boot-up sequence disappeared after changing the USB legacy options in BIOS, now the system is up and runs in less than a minute (keep in mind my Intel SSD disk). Regarding BIOS, I can access it, just hit DEL during boot-up and I can navigate through the options.....
                  By the way, the reason why of my high BCLK is to push memory frequency, I should had preferred a 1:1 and 200 BCLK

                    I have the same MB and my current Corsair 2*2Gb CM3X2048-1600C7DHX designed to run under 1600MHz for 1.9V can only run under 1080MHz for 1.65V (it is not present on http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/...ga-p55-ud6.pdf).
                    I'm looking for new RAM modules which are more compatible with P55-UD6, and your RAM is very interesting, even it seems not to be officially compatible. Can you tell me your BIOS version ?

                        Hi, my current BIOS version is F5e. I have to say that I am very satisfied with my RAM modules, I can warmly recommend them, maybe get 2 modules of 2 Gb each so you can squeeze the most of them, getting larger amount of RAM will lead to timings issues (if you are intending to overclock, of course) otherwise I am using my 4 modules at stock speed 1600 Mhz with 7-7-7-20 timings at 1,65 V, not too bad ;-)
