  • Sound output matching input

I have a Gigabyte MB with Realtek ALC889A built on, Win7 Home SPDIF to a Denon receiver. 5.1 sound plays back fine. When I play back a 2 channel source (CD) I get sound from all 5 speakers. Any idea what/where I have to change to get 5.1 as 5.1 and 2 channel as 2 or 2.1?

Newest drivers, It worked in Vista before the upgrade.
    Thanks

Have you tried the latest RealTek drivers, direct from RealTek? If not please try them >>
    Realtek

Could be a Windows 7 issue?

        Re: Sound output matching input

I've tried the drivers from the Gigabyte board and Realtek. Same issue. Pretty sure that if it wasn't set for exclusive control it would only output 2 channel. All I can get is 5.1. Getting ready to run out for work but will double check both tomorow. Any idea why I don't get the "Audio Manager" button? All I have is volume control.
        Thanks much to u both.

In Control Panel, click on Realtek Sound Effect Manager.
In the Sound Effect main screen, click the "i" button in the lower left corner.
In the Information pop up panel, click "Show icon in system tray", then click "OK".

Do you have Dolby Pro Logic enabled ? (if your drivers offer it). If so, uncheck it.

For me "Speakers" is grey like the HDMI. Under the Realtek digital output there is a tab for Dolby but, no way to uncheck.
                Thanks

For stereo output only, have you tried:
                  1) Realtek, Audio IO panel, change 6 channel speaker to 2 channel speaker?
                  or
                  2) Window's Control Panel, Sound and Multimedia, Audio panel, Sound Playback Advanced tab, Speakers = one of the stereo output options?

                    Re: Sound output matching input

                    1. In the Realtek IO panel I don't see any options for # of channels.
                    2. Under sounds in control panel speakers say "not plugged in" cecause of SPDIF.
                    Thanks again
