  • EX58-UD5 and OCZ Platinum 1333 Bios setting advice

    Hi all,
    Ive had a few issues with my pc and would like to better configure my bios to see if those issues can be resolved.

    right now the majority of voltages and all the advanced memory timing is set to auto, which i believe could be giving me the trouble.

    the problems are that I can't run an OS on raid, what happens if i do run an os on a raid array is after playing music or video for over 30 minutes, all the OS processes stop responding and the system grinds to a halt (excluding the peripherals)

    the second problem is not long after getting the system, it no longer can do a 32M superpi, the program crashes on my OS even if i follow better usage suggestions like turning off the windows audio service.

    My specs are in my signature and Ive discussed both issues in other threads already but have yet to resolve either.

    My current bios template is as follows, I should mention that with these settings i dont get any BSODs or any problem other then superpi crashes when my os is in a non raid mode.

    (Bios is currently F8e as in sig, theres a reason im on this version which i dont want to get into the details of right now, i have used F9d aswel but still had the same issues)

    Although I hate overvoltage, I do not want suggestions of running my kit for example at 1.66v, if a high voltage is avoidable its much preferred by myself.

    Hey, 1.66 Vdimm is what you need. 1.64 is less than that actually anyway due to the drop and less that that sometimes under load as well. So set 1.66 now and accept that as normal 1.65 :)

    RAID, hmm do you need help with that now or settings first? I assume you would need to reinstall anyway to mess with that right?

      Thanks a billion LSD :)

      Ive set that all now, its still running stable (no bsods) which is a good sign.

      with the variance of the manual voltages you recommend, ive just done one to two increments inside your suggested voltage rages for all of the settings, two increments for the parts like ICH core where i feel the little extra is needed.

      one thing i noticed your template recommends the tWL to be -1 of the Cas latency of the Ram, well mine on auto is at 7 where as my CL is also 7, should i change my tWL to 6 in my bios, will it help?

        Great to hear! Sorry about the voltage jump off comments, it just seemed like you maybe were scared so just wanted to try and let you know things were normal in regards to voltages like that.

        Keep on tweaking and testing, I am sure you will need to do a little of each before you are full stable.

        Auto, or the value that appears to be Auto on the left of the BIOS can be ignored. That is often incorrect and not used, it can be used sometime in the past, or in the BIOS but not often in windows.

        The setting you are asking about in particular will be set at the proper amount, and should fail I believe if it was above that. I know for sure it would fail to boot if it was under the correct amount.

        I suggest you leave all the advanced memory timings on auto, until you are sure you are fully stable. Then save that as a profile, then you can tweak them all you want. Just saying, get stable first, then play

          mate, youve solved the memory addressing crash with superpi

          I will refer back to this thread and adjust voltages accordingly if i run into any more instability.

              the current setting caused my os shell (explorer.exe) to get the same memory access problem while gaming (exception code 0x0000005)
              so it may not be perfect yet but im certainly on the right path.

              im tempted to try out the raiding again actually, but its alot of hassle for minimal gain, so ill probably give that a miss. :)

                sounds like ya just need some tweaking still is all, keep at it!

                You should be ok to RAID, or wait till you have more time to spare.

                  Just want to say, my Rig has been awesome ever since I had you guys help me with the advanced ram timing configuration. It really was the tRFC being too tight causing all my hassle.

                  I actually even since then added a 5870 and an SSD, which required small alterations to some of the tweaking (mainly voltage)
