    Hey all,

I've got some questions about my newly built machine. This is my first encounter with an advanced bios / modern hardware (i've been working with a 5 yr old dell laptop for....well, 5 years :p)

    Specs:
    3.16 wolfdale duo core
    P45 UD3P mobo (rev 1.6)
    2x2gb oc z 1066 (pc8500)
    EVGA gtx 295
    WD 150 gb raptor
    Corsair 850hx
    windows 7 (xp w/ 7 upgrade)

I had it up and running first try and everything worked great. The next afternoon though, I came home from work, booted up and received a blue screen.

Since then I've tried quite a number of things, eventually reformatting my HD. Now i'm not able to even install XP. I've gotten it farther in the process by tweaking bios versions / settings... but it still fails in the same place.

Was curious if someone could help me out with my bios settings so that I can eliminate it as a possible reason xp will not install??

Large memory configurations will normaly need more MCH Core voltage.

Please fill your frum signature with your systrem specs, including BIOS vers. and a link to ram specs on manufacturer site, or at least model/pat number.

Load optimized defaults first, save reboot and make the following changes
      Code:
      DRAM Performance Control
      Performance Enhance...................: [STANDARD]
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).....: Disabled << ignore if you don't have it

      MCH/ICH
MCH Core…………….....1.100V...........: 1.2 << try 1.2-1.24v, or less, 1.05-0.95v of more does not help
Check BIOS PC Health ram voltage after applying these settings, set DRAM Voltage manually to ram spec if it is under 1.9v.
These settings are for DDR-800, just to get you started. Once you have Windows installed and we can have more information we'll be able to advise for DDR-1066 settings.

It is recommended to run a few passes of memtest86+ before you try to install windows. You can find it and other programs in http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284762

When you have windows installed please post a screen capture of MemSet main and SPD(click spd) windows, and full BIOS settings using the template from this post or the one after.

        Re: p45 ud3p questions - bios/os install

Before we go any further, this is a SP1 or greater install disk correct? Just checking, I would think so by your initial install comments but just wanted to be sure.

The above tips are great, and be sure you also set your ram voltage manually to spec amount as well.

What CPU model are you using? If it is a 333 FSB model, and not overclocked, please also set Memory Multiplier to 3.20B for 1066Mhz. Then manually set Driving Strength profiles to 1066 for each channel, and for now raise and set manually Static tRead Value for each channel (8-9) should be good for now.

If none of this helps please do give us your memory model # or a link, and your CPU model # or name. Then fill out a template from the link in my signature with your current full BIOS settings.

You may also need to update the BIOS, you can get the latest here >>

If you are unsure about any of the flashing process please DO read this. DO NOT USE @BIOS!!!

          Re: p45 ud3p questions - bios/os install

I've updated my bios version to fD.

Ram specs can be found here
Cpu specs can be found here (newegg :p)

xp is sp3. CPU's fsb is 1333, is this what you meant about 333?

I'm taking my GF to the airport now, I'll be working on installing xp again in a few hours, as well as filling out the bios template.

          Thanks again for your help.

(also - how can I edit my sig? I've looked in profile options, but don't it there. is this something that becomes available as time goes on??)

DRAM Voltage auto is not enough for 1066, set it manually according to ram specs.

Are the nced Timing Control set manually?

So you found your signature page settings right? If not let me know and I will link you to it.

Yes, please set your own ram voltage to spec 2.1-2.2

Cheers friends, it turned out to be a faulty hard drive. Damn, I even payed extra for superior shipping... So things are running great, and I'm going to put some time into tweaking this weekend. So here is the memset screens you asked for, as well as a cpu-z cap.

I'm very glad to see you natrex. . You have no idea. lol. I noticed you have similar ocz ram as mine. Does your ram have a green pcb and the updated ram cooling with silver colored heatpipe instead of copper? The pic below is what i have.

And one more thing, which would help me alot is which slots is your ram installed in? Is it the yellow ones or the orange/pink?

p45 ud3p 1.6 fb stable but fd fails or is it just my ocz incompatibility?!? This guy has problems uniquely similar to mine. I'm starting to think this ocz brand is just not that great. JR P45 driving me crazy!

                      Re: p45 ud3p questions - bios/os install

You should be able to lower Performance Level (a.k.a tRD, Static tRead Value in BIOS) to 6, possibly 5 at 333FSB.
tRAS 15 and lower tRFC 56-68 are also possible and will require extended testing, 12+ hours Prime95/Orthos blend torture or OCCT medium data set.
Always run several memtest86+ passes before starting windows when tweaking those parameters.
