  • SATA Bios Setup

I am having a problem understanding on a new build with 2 sata drives and one DVD drive, why the BIOS detects the SATA drives as IDE Channel 0 Master and IDE Channel 1 Slave and the DVD drive is not detected. The DVD drive works and is displayed in Windows device manager but have found it is slow when burning a DVD. On startup the the first boot screen displays the SATA drives configured as above then there is a second screen that momentarily appears displaying the DVD drive (highlighted in green) under a heading Gigabyte: PCI express to SATA II controller ROM.Another problem i get is a low frequency momentary buzz from the speaker connected to MB. Any help understanding these problems would be great.Thanks.

    Re: SATA Bios Setup

IDE stated in the BIOS simply means normal SATA, as in not AHCI or RAID, this does not mean they are running like IDE Drives it is just how Gigabyte choose to label things.

Please connect your two SATA Hard drives to the Blue Intel ports, and please use ports labeled SATA2_0 and SATA2_1, then connect your DVD Drive to the last Blue Intel Port SATA2_5

You should have your settings set to one of these choices, depending on how you installed, in the Integrated Peripherals BIOS page.

Normal IDE mode (SATA Only no RAID/AHCI)

    Integrated Peripherals

    Intel Controller (Blue Ports)
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. Disabled
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

Gigabyte/J.Micron Controller (White Ports) This only needs to be enabled if you are using an actual IDE Ribbon cable device, or you are using the white SATA Ports (Which you do not need to use but can of course)
Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE

    RAID Mode

    Integrated Peripherals

    Intel Controller (Blue Ports)
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. RAID

IDE

    AHCI Mode
    Integrated Peripherals

    Intel Controller (Blue Ports)
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. AHCI

IDE

About the speaker buzz, do you have DES (Dynamic Energy Saver) Installed? If so, uninstall it and see if that corrects this. If not please disable in the Advanced section of the BIOS C1E and EIST (Speedstep) as this can often be the cause
