  • Which 4GB ram kit for Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 rev 1.0

    Hi!
My ocz 2x1GB pc6400 ram kit died recently and I wanto buy a 2x2gb kit. I hear 4x1GB have problems so i avoid that, but I haven't found any 2x2gb compatibility reports or overclocking.

should I go for 2x2GB overclocking
    Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR2 PC8500 Kit C5
    Mushkin DDR2 4GB extreme Performance XP2-8500 (5.5.5.15)
OCZ DDR2 4 GB Platinum Edition Dual Ch. PC2-8500 (5.5.5.18)

or should i forget about overclocking 2x2GB and get
    Corsair TWIN2X TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX CL5
    OCZ DDR2 4 GB SLI-Ready Edition Dual Ch (5-4-4-15)

or overclock a more compatible 2x1GB kit?
    Corsair TWIN2X8500C5D, 2048MB DDR-DIMM CL5-5-5-15-2T

I ran my FSB at 430 and memory at 860, but i'd like even more performance. Maybe 330 and memory at 500mhz (1GB datarate)?

Update: It seems to be the motherboard that is broken. It is fine at 400mhz (800 datarate) if only one of the memory modules are in. any other dual configuration at stock speed and it wont post.

Did you or can you test each stick one by one with memtest86+?
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Maybe you have one faulty stick or one that is going bad.

Another thing it could be is you may not be setting your settings properly.

2x2GB is a good choice for that board, I would say keep with 6400 800Mhz kits. 1066 is not noticeable anyway except in benchmarks.

      Hi sorry for late repl
I tested prime95 blend 4 threads in windows vista. It seems to have been the memory after all, as the sticks have problems with dual channel on a new asus p5q deluxe i bought. argh

I have run the sticks at 4.5.4.15 and 2.1v for two years, and suddenly games started crashing. I set the oc down a bit and it tested stable. Then it got unstable again, and I set the fsb/ram down again. In the end I was down to 285MHz (570 datarate) with +0.2v on the North bridge.

Yes memory doesn't usually be the bottleneck but I always welcome more peformance
