  • 3 week new build

My first build.I built this pc 8/10/09-it ran great for 3 weeks-then crashed.I put it in the shop-just got it back 10/19/09.They said one of my vga cards is bad. It's in the RMA process.
Here's a list of 4 things I'd like to do-
#1-I need to install raid0 on purple sata ports(they are on the yellow right now)
#2-I want to safely overclock cpu to 4.0 GHz(is it possible?)
#3-I want update to latest bios(or should I stay with FB)
#4-I want to tweak the memory(it's working fine now)
I just want the best performance out of this pc.I'm very new to this stuff and any help would be appreciated.

    Re: 3 week new build

I've seen a couple of web articles where raid performance using the purple GSata ports is noticeably inferior to using the standard Intel yellow ports. I'm not familiar with raid setups, maybe all your hard drives can use the yellow sata ports where you configure the correct boot drive in your bios.

      Re: 3 week new build

My computer is running great the way it's set up.I just thought the purple ports were for raid0 and raid1 and would leave me extra yellow sata ports for future add on's.I only have one port left.
In the windows experience index everything is 5.9 except my processor-it's 5.6.As much as I paid for my processor - a person would think it would be on top - I guess not.Is there a safe way to overclock my computer to 4.0 GHz?If so-could you help with the procedure?Your help is much appreciated.

        Re: 3 week new build

i havent tride the puple slots on this board but on my p35 it droped my read and write speeds by around 20% compared to the yellow ones, i would imagine that it will be about the same with a p45 board.

windows index scores dont really tel the whole truth allthough they are a good starting point to find out how well your pc does and which areas to improve.

try using hdtach or everest disk benchmark to find out exactly how much performance you have from your harddisk.

as for the cpu it wants a quad core and ignores the fact that yours has more speed than some of those.

          ^^^^^ Good suggestions.
As I recall I did a google search on
          jmicron vs intel raid performance

Some of the articles might refer to older hardware/driver versions, not the most recent ones. You can also search the TT forum for

My rig is similar to Yours...My older rig. WEI score is 7.0 in Win 7 x64

            WD Black 1tb storage
            Creative SB X-fi
            Nvidia GT260 <216>

What settings are you looking for?
What CPU cooler? To go above 4ghz good cooling is a must.

I'm really just wanting to learn how to overclock my cpu.Seems to me maybe 4.0ghz would be a good starting point.I have a zalman cnps9900led cpu cooler.
I'm new to this stuff. Can you walk me through the procedure?I would sure appreciate it.
