  • Problems with 64 bit using GA-EP45-UD3P

32 bit Vista and Windows 7 run no problem...64-bit...as soon as the Windows screen pops up, a blue screen pops up and restarts...

I have 8 GB of ddr2-667 mhz...the BIOS recognizes 8gb of ram but it still wont load...no idea what the problem could be.
I tried changing the memory speed to 667 from 800 but still no dice...maybe I am missing something (timing is 6-6-6-18)

    specs are:
    Intel Q9300
    GA-ED45-UD3P
8gb of no-name ram (Waiting for GSkill ram) at ddr2-pc6400 667mhz
    antec neopower 650w
    nvidia 9800gt

    Thank you,
    Greg

Re: Problems with 64 bit using GA-EP45-UD3P

Not clear is it PC-6400 (800MHz) or PC-5300 (667<Hz) ram?

With more than 2x1GB of memory configuration there may be a need for more MCH Core.
Begin with optimized defaults loaded, set Performance Enhance to standard, and graduately increase MCH Core, one step at a time, you may need up to 1.28v.
Run memtest86+ for 6+ passes before booting windows, memory related problems may lead to file or file system corruption.

It says PC2-6400U-666...each stick is 2gb...not sure what that means...still try your suggestions? Thanks Chike

        Yes still try my suggestions.
Could be that the 666 refer to timings not speed. In memtest86+ you will see for sure, both speed and timings.

Re: Problems with 64 bit using GA-EP45-UD3P

          i found the ram...

          Qimonda memory HYS64T256020EU-2.5-C2 2GB PC2-6400 UDIMM | HYS64T256020EU-2.5-C2 2GB 240-PIN DDR2-800 800MHz RAM upgrade

came from an HP...could be compatibility? though the 32-bit OSes worked...any help appreciated. Thanks again...

Re: Problems with 64 bit using GA-EP45-UD3P

Could be compatibility issue, could be faulty memory module or slot.
32bit Windows never use more than 4GB of memory so if there's a problem above GB it won't happen in 32bit Windows.
If memtest86+ still show errors with whatever settings than you will need to run individual stick/slot tests.
If errores are always at the same address range(s) it may indicate faulty memory module(s)

sounds more like an OS hard drive ide v ahci issue.

I would run Memtest Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool with Chikes advised settings. I would have though if it was a Hard Drive issue it would happen with the other OS's. Also perhaps it may be worth setting your HPET in the BIOS to 64Bit mode.

Re: Problems with 64 bit using GA-EP45-UD3P

I would suggest you either use only 4GB until you get your new ram, or test each stick one by one as suggested above

And yes you should set HPET to x64 as well

Either way, 4Gb or 8GB, you are going to need to set your own ram and MCH Voltages and I suggest you change Performance Enhance in the MIT Section to standard for now as well. The set your own tRD (Static tRead Value) for each channel to 8-9 for now
