    Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

    When I do and Inf install, I unzip the files to a temporary folder on my hard drive and run the install from the temporary folder.
    Then I reboot my system and verify that everything is okie-dokie.

    Have you rebooted your system since your Inf install?
    If worse comes to worse, you can probably unzip the files to a usb drive and run the install from that drive.

    Double check the readme file, it usually has instructions for several types of install setups.

      Intel INF install: Readme.txt

      *********************************************
      * Product: Intel(R) Chipset Device Software
      * Release: Production Version
      * Version: 9.1.1.1019
      * Target Chipset#: Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset
      * Date: August 18 2009
      *********************************************

      6. Installing the Software in Interactive Mode

      *********************************************
      * 6. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE IN INTERACTIVE MODE
      *********************************************
      1. Verify that all system requirements have been met as
      described in Section 2 above.

      2. Run the InstallShield* installation program:
      Self-extracting .EXE distribution: INFINST_AUTOL.EXE
      Compressed .ZIP distribution: SETUP.EXE

      3. You will be prompted to agree to the license agreement.
      If you do not agree, the installation program will exit
      before extracting any files.

      4. Once the operating system reboots, follow the on-screen
      instructions and accept default settings to complete the
      setup.

      ========
      I've always used the steps in section 6 and never had a problem.
      I haven't tried the steps in section 9 where the floppy drive is mentioned.
      If you follow the appropriate steps in section 9x, you should be able to specify the location of the newest INF files that were extracted from the zipped file.

      I'm going to update my system now using step 6.
      I'll get back to you shortly with my results.

      Ask if you have any other questions.
      We'll help cure you of your n00bishness ;)

        Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

        Applied the newest INF install successfully on my P35-DS3L backup system using the step #6 procedure:
        1. unzipped the 9.1.1.1019 file to a folder on my hard drive
        2. canceled all unneeded programs
        3. ran SETUP.EXE from the INF install folder
        4. watched the screen list the applied updates
        5. rebooted after the update completed
        6. verified that the update was applied by opening several OEM*.INF files in the boot (C:) drive

        Any questions?

                Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

                Right, Ive installed the latest Intel Inf Drivers following profjim's helpful posts but that had no effect. DVD is still shown as SCSI.

                Cheers kcconlin9319 - Obviously my feeble attempt at searching for a similar thread failed!

                So going from that thread, if i uninstall and delete the 'Gigabyte GBB36X Controller' in my Device Manager it should just install a 'Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller' in its place?

                Will running a Standard IDE Controller Driver have any detrimental effect on performance?

                Im pretty sure the GBB36X is only running the IDE DVD Drive anyway as my HD's are SATA plugged into the Yellow (ICH10 Intel?) ports.

                Cheers all.

                  Let us know how it turns out using the excellent info in the other thread.
                  Good Luck!!

                  **edit** Using the Standard IDE Controller Driver should have your DVD drive running at full speed.

                    Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

                    Ok, success!! I think. I chose to update the GBB36X driver and manually picked Standard Dual IDE Controller from the list of drivers. It made the GBB36X disappear and after a reboot i now have these headings under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers:-

                    Intel ICH10 Family 2 port Serial ATA Storage Cont 2 - 3A26
                    Intel ICH10 Family 4 port Serial ATA Storage Cont 1 - 3A20
                    Primary IDE Channel
                    Primary IDE Channel
                    Primary IDE Channel
                    Secondary IDE Channel
                    Secondary IDE Channel
                    Secondary IDE Channel
                    Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller

                    My DVD drive is now showing up as ATA under DVD/CD-ROM Devices

                    Dont know why ive all of a sudden got 3 Primary and 3 Secondary but everything appears to be working.

                    Does this look OK to you guys??? Im a little twitchy about the 'Standard' driver being used...

                    Thanks alot for everyones help, its been top notch.

                          google searches:
                          jmicron problem --> ~1,160,000 entries
                          jmicron problem gigabyte --> ~ 298,000 entries
                          jmicron problem gigabyte GBB36X --> ~ 7,680 entries
                          you get the idea!
                          Many issues are raid related, but....

                          The bottom line is don't install any drivers that you don't need.
                          If you're not sure about a particular driver, just ask, someone here will know.
                          Hint: When you're installing drivers for a new build, DON'T use the DVD's Express Install feature where it will install everything.
                          Your best bet is to download the most recent drivers from the original source (e.g. Intel, Realtek, etc.) and download the most recent versions of GB software and bios from the GB website.

                          Ignorance isn't a sin, but it can be a royal PITA when you're building your system.

                          **edit** I have no idea what ****e is, in the USA we mostly use 4 letter words to describe P.O.S items.

                            Heh, yeah i get the idea.

                            I did use the express install when i built the comp yeah, everything has been working perfectly up to this hitch with the writer. I get your point but when your not sure what drivers you need in the first place it can help use express...then you can go through and update them to the most recent versions 1 by 1 after. Im slowly learning though!

                            Oh and the ****e was becuase of the word s.h.i.t.e! Cheers again for your help.

                              There's no way you could have or should have known about the information in the last half of post #27.
                              The forum is all about sharing information, hopefully someone reading this thread will learn from all the information in your thread.
                              It's rare, but once in a while a GB newbie will post that he's about to build a new system and ask us if there's anything he should know ahead of time.

                              One unrelated tip, NEVER flash your bios using the @BIOS program in windows, there's a good possibility that the flash will fail and that you'll end up with a bricked motherboard. There's an excellent sticky near the beginning of the GB thread list that details everything you'll need to know to safely flash your bios.
                              Glad to have helped out.

                              **edit** I just googled s.h.i.t.e., same as our 4 letter word ;)
                              p.s. make mine a Guin~ness draught!
