  • Windows 7 JBOD problem

Hello, I have a Mediasonic Probox 4 drive enclosure which was working fine with windows XP SP3. I recently installed Windows 7 and promptly installed the Windows 7 install package off the Gigabyte site for my GA-MA78GM-S2H. I can now only see the first of 4 drives in the Disk Manager. I can swap any of the other drives in that first/top position and Windows will see it... but only 1 at a time. I have also tried most AHCI configurations in the BIOS with no luck so any advice would be much appreciated.

    GA-MA78GM-S2H Rev 1.1
    AMD X3 720
    Mushkin 2x1 gig @800
OCZ Vertex 30 gig C: drive
Probox 4x 1000 gig WD Green drives

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Windows 7 JBOD problem

Hi, i just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and i am experiencing the same problem. It worked fine in Vista but in 7 only the first drive appears.

Did you come across a solution? I have been scouring the net for hours.

Does the size of the drive change when you add the others? Have you tried typing Disk Management in the Windows search? Then Click Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions? To add missing letter. Windows 7 Forums

            Re: Windows 7 JBOD problem

The drives don't show up in disk management and i have already upgraded the chipset. I really don't want to risk upgrading the bios as i don't think this is the issue.

I might try an older version of the chipset drivers.

I guess you have your e-SATA connected to SATA2_5 external header. With the SATA2_4/5 bios setting set to As SATA Type?

The drive size doesn't change, you lost me on that second part. My computer knowledge is limited.

The second part is for if you have a Mediasonic Probox and it is connected to the ESATA port on the back of the motherboard. Then you must go into BIOS/Integrated Peripherals and set the
                  OnChip IDE Channel [Enabled]
                  OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
OnChip SATA Type [AHCI] or RAID
x OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type [AHCI] RAID
Hence SATA Port 4/5 "As SATA Type"

I have a Asus p5q pro turbo MB. I could only find one setting to change to AHCI that was set to IDE. Now even the first drive doesn't appear...?

Thanks for helping me on this.

So you set it to AHCI and you have no hard drives showing?

                        Re: Windows 7 JBOD problem

I believe the setting was "Configure sata as" It was IDE and i changed it to AHCI. Now my Internal sata drive shows, as well as my internal IDE drive, however my external esata drive isn't found. (Before the 1st of the 4 drives in the enclosure was detected.)

Sorry i just realised i didn't save on exit. When i change Configure sata as to AHCI instead of IDE Windows blue screens during startup and instantly restarts.

I am sorry I am not familiar with the bios settings on an ASUS motherboard. You may need to set the SATA type as ide until you can get the bios settings figured out.

                              PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I installed the drivers under chipset and SATA on the Asus website but didn't check drivers under 'other'. Installing JMicron drivers fixed the problem.

Thanks to everyone who helped or at least tried.
