GA-P55-UD6 Memory

I recently ordered a P55-UD6 mother board. I also ordered OCZ DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) memory. I want to make sure that the 1600 memory is supported by the board. I will be using the Core i7 860 processor.

The best thing to do is go to gigabytes web site for your board and see what the supported memory is. But that doeesn't mean what you bought won't work.

Thanks for your response. The web site says that it supports DDR3 2600+/2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules. But it is my understanding that the P55 Express chip set should also support 1600 MHz modules. If it is not listed can I still use them or do I need to exchange for 1333 MHz modules?

I would say your ok may have to run 1333 (under clocked) with them though and you may be able to get the full 1600. Who knows for sure?, till you try em.

BTW, I know nothing about DDR3 or your board.

Best advice I can give you is if your worred about it, pick a memory from their list of known supported in your range. Higher is better...

I am using GSkill DDR3-1600 on a P55-UD3R and it works fine. At stock 133 BCLK, the memory multiplier must be 12 to give you 1600 (133x12=1600). If you overclock, you must lower the multiplier, for example at 200 BCLK use 8 (200x8=1600).

The GB QVL Memory List will always be limited.
When I'm buying memory, I always check with the memory vendors' tech support people to see if the they have tested the specific memory with my mobo.
If not, it can be a crap shoot, especially with newly released motherboards.
Sometimes you need to start at lower memory speeds and gradually tweak your way to the desired memory speeds.

Good point Chike.
I don't know if he's referring to P55 mobos in general, or the GB P55 models.
Is it the P55 where it's now called the PCH instead of north bridge?

Thanks for your response - I will go with the DDR3 1600. Does that also mean if I overclock, I will have to use specific Bclk frequencies that fit with the Bios memory multipliers such as 160MHz Bclk (10), 200MHz Bclk (8),etc.? Or will the Auto memory multiplier adjust for in-between Bclk frequencies such as 145.45Mhz (11)? I am somewhat new to this so I appreciate your response.

Yes, my statement was confusing. I meant to refer to P55 mother board BIOS's but specifically to the GB P55 motherboard BIOS. I did not know what memory multipliers were available with the GB motherboard BIOS.
