      Re: Can't boot from SATA DVD on MA78GM

      Hello

      I found this in google after failing to boot xp on my desktop from SATA DVD Writer.
      The system i use is AMD Sempron,(2.0 GHZ, 256 RAM) it had both IDE and Sata options but the both HDD and DVD Rom were IDE, As i mentioned it had DVD ROM only and I needed to burn dvds so bought new SATA LG supermulti drive, it was working fine i used to burn even multi layer dvds till today when i found my xp stoped working and says about a missing file, i thought to reinstall it (and thanks God i always keep data on other drives)
      Placed bootable XP CD in Sata drive and Selected 1st boot option as CD, but it wont do the job i tried many times to reboot and see but i failed. The XP CD is new and i installed it several other systems, So i took the old IDE drive to install, the problem with the old iDE drive is its bit of old and i have not been using it so i guess its optic is dusty or what so far i have encountered 3 to 4 uncopied files error and its taking long time too (more then 30 min and just 50 percent done just for coping files)

      How should i resolve this problem for a future perpose or may be this time too cause it dont seems so far that i will install it from old drive.

      THANK YOU

      Haroon

        You may need to switch some connectors around. Plus check your SATAII connetor cables. Also check the HDD. It could be loosing data and going bad.
        I would put my SATA DVD on the SATAII_4 or 5 connector and my SATAII HDD's on the SATAII_0 through 3 connector.

        I would then go into BIOS by pressing the delete key several times at first post beep. Then Load Optimized defaults, Save and Exit.
        You can use the F12 key several times at first post beep to get boot menu and a choice of boot devices to choose from.
        Code:
        CMOS Setup Utility-Copyright (C) 1984-2009 Award Software
         MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
         Standard CMOS Features
         Advanced BIOS Features
         Integrated Peripherals
         Power Management Setup
         PnP/PCI Configurations
         PC Health Status
        Load Fail-Safe Defaults
        [COLOR="darkred"]Load Optimized Defaults Press Enter[/COLOR]
        Set Supervisor Password
        Set User Password
        [COLOR="darkred"]Save & Exit Setup[/COLOR]
        Exit Without Saving

          You may also just need to change your SATA mode to IDE while you are doing this, then set back to AHCI once you are done with your file replacement.

          Sometimes booting to CD is not possible in AHCI mode, that is why I mentioned this
