  • EP45-UD3R Question Fans connection

hello guys, i buy two fans Arctic Cooling 12025 PWM, and the question is, can connect three fans in the CPU_FAN connector??? the fans have this connection possible, but i don't know if the Motherboard support three fans in the same connector, is this possible????

    Re: EP45-UD3R Question Fans connection

I have had 2 Scythe S-Flex 1600 rpms fans hooked up to my cpu fan header with no problems. Each fan draws 0.2 amps (2.4 watts), but I've disabled the PWM feature in the bios. Your fans will probably draw a little less power (per fan). Arctic Cooling states that up to 5 of these fans can be connected together, but this would mean that the fans would be drawing about 1 amp total (12 watts) and this is not safe in my opinion.

I see little benefit in having additional fans powered by the PWM fan header. It makes sense for the fans connected to your cpu to be controlled by the bios (if you want to), but your remaining fans should provide consistent air flow.

I use a separate fan controller to control my remaining case fans for times when cooling needs are less and I want my system to be as quiet as possible. If you decide to use a fan controller, read the reviews and buy a good one. Some of the cheaper fan controllers don't work very well.

Your fans should under-volt well as they're rated for 6 - 12 volts. I didn't find any electrical specs that stated how much current each fan draws. With high quality, reasonably quiet fans, running them at 80% of their rated speed should give near silent operation.

        Re: EP45-UD3R Question Fans connection

Ambient room temperature and the cooling ability of your setup have a major effect on interior case temperatures. At idle or with low cpu loads, cooling needs are reduced and your fan speeds will be minimal. The best way to check if the reported fan speeds are accurate is to briefly use only one fan hooked up to the PWM cpu fan header.

Some fans don't under-volt well and might stop spinning when the voltage drops below 7 - 9 volts. Your fans are specifically designed for PWM operation so the near 500 rpm fan speed is probably OK. When your system is running with heavier loads, the temperatures will rise and you should see higher fan speeds.

If fan noise isn't an issue, then you could run some or all of your fans at full speed by using the 3-pin fan headers and/or disabling the cpu PWM setting.
