  • Gigabyte EX58 Extreme/Intel i7 920 DO step 4.0Ghz. Overclock.

Core i7 Overclocking Guide For Beginners - Clunk's Forums. But after shutting down the test and rebooting everything seems to be slower as far as opening or closing application windows. Or just navigating my Windows 7. I dont think maybe that I have my memory setup correctly. Any suggestions? Also, how do I get CPU-Z to show the actual 4.0Ghz I setup using the manual above and to also show that I have my CPU Core Voltage to show 1.25 as I have it set in the BIOS? Thanks

Even just dragging a application window across the desktop is slow or stop and go. Just thought I would add that.

is c1e anabled in the bios? also what timings and speed and voltage is your ram? is system performance on standard in bios? tell me qpi voltage too you might need slightly older cpu-z to see ur mhz not fluctuate, easytune should show u a constant cpu mhz tho...also you might need a 191bclk to give you a true 4ghz

I don't think an hour of Prime95 would be even considered "stable".

Try running it overnight (~8-9 hours) and/or running 20-25 runs of LinX.

I havent called it stable yet, just was trying to get some idea how my cooling would hold up. At what point do you call it overkill as to how long a program like Prime95 or LinX should be run? 8-9 hours,24 hours,or 1 week just to make absolutely sure? Not going for NASA-Approved here,LOL. Just little Ol me trying to have a setup for playing a few games here and there.. Memory timings are set at 8-8-8-24 1 command rate, dont know what c1e is, I have the Memory Voltage at 1.66 if thats the setting your referring to. There is no 1.65 that my OCZ1600 DDR312800 requires. What confused me about the Overclock manual I used is what setting they refer to for the Memory Voltage Controller, they state that Gigabyte should call it the CPU Vid,which I dont have in my BIOS,I used the QPI/VTT Voltage setting.

c1e is the power saving feature it throttles your cpu when idle to lower temps, its in advanced cpu features it only throttles cpu when on auto or normal volts and it doesnt throttle when under load....and what qpi/vtt voltage are u using?

If I remember right, I am at work typing this now,I have the QPI/VTT set at 1.66 as I am thinking that this is the Memory Controller Voltage talked about in the guide I used. Should c1e be set off?

it doesnt relly matter imo if its on or off,qpi/vtt @1.66??? you mean your dram voltage?? that should be 1.66. Qpi should be at around 1.28000 or 1.3 not 1.66 as its way overvoltaged

Yes C1E needs to be disabled.

Also if you are referring to QPI/DRAM Core Voltage, that needs to be within 0.5V of your DRAM voltage (which should be set at 1.66V). If you are running QPI/VTT at 1.66V, I would highly recommend you lower it to 1.2-1.35V (depending on your system). With that much, you can kill you CPU.

So QPI/DRAM should be at the 1.28-1,3 and DRAM Voltage is set at 1.66 which is where I have it. And QPI/VTT should be within .5v of the DRAM Voltage. Thanks for the help guys.

OK, I dont think I had problems with the memory. The Desktop window dragging problem was not even related to the memory. Doh! Something got changed in my Window 7 after the overclock. Went to mouse properties and works fine now.
