System not booting.....

Hi, this is my first post in this forum.

My PC when it is turned on first displays the mother board manufacturer's logo and then freezes.At first loud beeping could be heard then it stopped.I think the problem is with the RAM or PSU but is not sure about it.Does anybody know what must be causing the trouble?

Could you be a bit more specific about what "PC" is?
Board, CPU, memory, PSU, video card etc.

It is a pretty old system, say 6 year old.

Its pentium 3 processor, 256mb ram...and using xp sp2
other details cant access as system is not booting up.

i used to have hp pentium3 i dont think you could access the bios tho? i couldnt on mine what have you done to it? installed ram or psu recently?? could be hard drive problem can you boot in safe mode?

i am not able to boot it in safe mode either...
it says boot failure some 5 minutes after freezing up.

Before the problem started....
I had tried connecting a new dvd writer to it.
as soon as i insereted any cd/dvd into it systme used to reboot,so iremoved it and tried and the new problem occured.

ohh so did it come with any drivers on a cd? or just plug n play? and was it a sata drive or ide?(one with like a ribbon connector)

it has a IDE connection.
They had given a nero cd with it... had tried it in friends comp.. and was successful in reading a DVD.
It also didnt have any driver cds.
So i guess that makes it a plug and play type.

just look inside your case and make sure u aint disturbed anything,push down on the cable connectors and the ram make sure its seated,also does it give u options when mb logo pops up? like bios options

i have already checked the connections and ram.
still no diff.
It doesnt give any options to enter bios or something.

the only thing you can do is to unplug hd,plug it in another pc and back it up,then plug back in ur pc and press sytem restore or system recovery at boot screen BACK UP YOUR HD FIRST THO as it will wipe it ...and this is only a last resort as i cant think of it being anything else other than the dvd drive has corrupted something and your mb doesnt let you enter the bios

I reconnected dvd writer to comp and rebooted... it worked
