  • Duel Boot Hard drive Question

If I have Vista installed on one drive then after I install windows 7 on another drive, I now have the duel boot option that asks which I want to boot Windows 7 or Vista. My question is, can I temporarily turn off the power unplug the sata cable for the vista HDD then turn it on and load windows 7, test my computer then turn off and replug my vista drive back in, will I ruin the dual boot option? Will that option still appear? Will I still be able to run my vista drive? I want to test my computer to see if one of my drives are causing me my sleep/wake problems by unplugging then one at a time and trying them. I just dont want to ruin any configuration for being able to boot vista or windows 7.

    Thanks
    Shane

Re: Duel Boot Hard drive Question

there is no need, just change the boot priority in the BIOS to the drive which contains Windows 7 or windows VISTA.

No, it wont ruin the dual boot option unless the boot priorities change, but u can always change it back

Re: Duel Boot Hard drive Question

You can easily adjust settings related to this using VistaBootPro

Yes, you can unplug a drive for testing if you like, just plug it back into the same spot when you are done. Yes the menu will still appear as it is part of the bootloader, but you will only be able to select the MAIN OS in the menu because the second one would be on d/e/ect drive letter and you would have removed this drive letter as an option by removing the drive

Re: Duel Boot Hard drive Question

it will be fine, for dual boot with say vista and win7 just press f12 at splash screen then hard drive then select the hard drive with the operating system you want to boot into....unlugging hard drive cables for testing wont alter anything youll still be able to dual boot from f12
