  • Ep45-Dq6 with 8 gigs, Help!

    Hi,

This is my first post here, i posted my issue in the Muskin forum and got some helpful posts however i'm still having problems so thought i would come over here and see what i could find out.

    I have the following

    EP45-DQ6 - Bios: F13D k:0428009
    Q9550 (not overclocked)
    8gig Mushkin HP2 6400 DDR2 800 2gbx4
    Sapphire 4770
    WD Caviar Black HD
    Samsung SATA DVDR
    Enermax Liberty 500w PS

I have tested all my ram individually in all the slots and they test out ok. I have then test 2gb, 4gb, 6gb and they test fine. When i add the last 2gb for a total of 8gb i get errors in testing and windows will blue screen randomly. As soon as i go back to 6 gigs everything it stable.

These were the following settings that were suggested to me:

    Performance Enhance: Standard
    Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P): Disabled
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch: 333
    System Memory Multiplier(SPD): 2.40B
    CAS Latency Time: 5
    tRCD: 4
    tRP: 4
    tRAS: 12

    >Advanced Timing Control
    tRRD: 4(3-5)
    tWTR: 5(2-5)
    tWR: 6(4-6)
    tRFC: 60(50-60)
    tRTP: 6(4-6)
    Command Rate(CMD): 2T
    >>>>>> Channel A
    Static tRead Value: 9(7-9)
    tRD Phase(0-3) Adjustment: Auto
    Trd2rd(Different Rank): Auto
    >>>>>> Channel B
    Static tRead Value: 9(7-9)
    tRD Phase(0-3) Adjustment: Auto
    Trd2rd(Different Rank): Auto

    DRAM Voltage: 1.8V

I tried these without any luck. At this point i am running 6 gigs but would love to use all 8 if this can be figured out.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Chris

if you use 8gigs slacken off your timings or set them to auto and try...see what auto sets the timings at

Re: Ep45-Dq6 with 8 gigs, Help!

Don't run your ram at a multiplier higher than than 2.00B or 2.00D for stability purposes.

BTW I have the same board and same ram. Both work fine at 8gbs and 333mhz latch with 2.00B multiplier. If you try to use weird multiplier settings you get instablity. There's no advantage or performance gain to running your ram faster than you cpu.

Also for stability purposes use 2.00V instead of the default 1.8

Re: Ep45-Dq6 with 8 gigs, Help!

Is this your ram? if not please provide the link too your model.
Is it 8GB kit or 2x4GB kits?
More than 1x1GB of ram often need mor MCH Core, for 8GB try 1.2-1.28v, in less often cases less is required 1.05-0.95v.
You may as well need to increase DRAM Voltage.

Re: Ep45-Dq6 with 8 gigs, Help!

When running with 8GB of memory, the memory speed often has to be set at a somewhat lower speed. Many memory manufacturers state on their websites that memory speeds are only guaranteed for 2x2GB setups.

The 2.40B memory multiplier would be fine with your setup if you only had 2x2GB of memory and 2.40 x 333 = 800MHz.
2.00D should not be used with cpu FSB less than 400MHz.

As Chike said, your MCH Core voltage will probably need to be in the 1.2x volt range.
Sunburn74's 2.00 volt memory setting should be applied. You might be able to lower it after your system has passed stability testing.

Please post your current bios settings using either of the EP45 bios templates.

Yes, please let us know the model # so we can check a few things. You likely need to use more than 1.8V and you need to set some MCH Voltages as well as a few other things.

I can give you a full template of settings to try to work with, please give us your model # and fill this out with the current settings you are trying that fail >>>
