  • Help needed!! Bluescreens while installing any x64 OS, x32 works fine

Hello everyone, i'm quite new here and i'm in need of some big help.

    System is on the bottom...

    How it began
I build myself a new pc and unluckily one of my 3 ram sticks was fried. So i installed win7 x64 on my hdd. At this point i was working only with 4 gb ram.
Well later on i send them back, and one week later i got brand new ram. Now once i build them in i wanted to boot up my system but to my surprise i got a bluescreen.
Well i didn't think much of it, so i simply tried to reinstall my OS.
Unlucky how i was, it didn't work at all. Bluescreen during install.
So i tried installing Vista Ultimate x64. No luck here either.
Note : I tried it with 6gb ram, 4gb and 2gb. I even tried installing Ubuntu x64 with no success.
But installing Win Xp x32 and it somehow worked without problems.
So right now im running Win XP x32. And i can't use my 6gb ram

    Bluescreens

I got those bluescreens during install of an x64 OS.
And on my x32 win xp i get memory management but rarely.
    -Memory_Management no screenshot available =(
    -System_Service_Exception
    -Page_Fault_In_NonPaged_Area
    -Stop Message with win32k.sys
    -Fatal_System_Error no screenshot either...

    What i did so far

    -Memtest86+ v2.21
With 6 gb installed no problems after 1 hour
    -Bios updated to F7
    -Prime95 with 4gb installed
with small fft it didnt work and with large fft all my workers stopped working. Later on i tried again with small fft and it worked somehow.

-furmark there i got some crazy grapic glitches
And my GPU was overheating very fast. Fan wasn't running at full speed

    Bios settings are at default.

    System

    CPU: QuadCore Intel Core i7 920, @2,66

If there's some info missing or if anything is unclear, i'll try to clear things out.
I'll post my Bios settings later on, so you guys can check them and tell me if i need to change anything regarding timings and voltage

I'll be more than happy if some of you guys could help me out =)

PS. Now and then i get some Bluescreens with my x32 Win XP SP3
At totaly random times, when i close a window, my firefox crashes.
The same goes for Vuze... after sometime it simply dissapears. And don't know if this has something to do with my problem from before, but more information is better than none. Cheers.
PSS. Drivers are all uptodate (i hope so :P)

Re: Help needed!! Bluescreens while installing any x64 OS, x32 works fine

You may need to set HPET to x64 before installing a x64 system, not sure if incorrectly setting that would cause what you are seeing or not though as I always set this properly.

All the BSOD Codes I see are memory related, and by looking at your memory timing specs I would say you may need to update your BIOS. Older BIOS are not compatible with the type of IC's used in your ram.

Please update to the latest BIOS Here >>

And please DO NOT USE @BIOS, use Qflash here is a guide >>

After you do that, if you still have issues please see the link in my signature and get us your FULL Settings you are using and we will advise back

As for x64 install issues, maybe that would help, maybe not? But I would for sure start with the latest BIOS and the correct HPET Setting. Also, I would remove ANY external USB Devices during the install process

-> done and it didnt help.. bluescreen while installing win7 x64 with only 2gb ram installed...
      -> see pic below
      ->

you may need to update your BIOS
      -> done using qflash

after flashing i couldn boot up my win xp x32 os...

      ntldr is missing
i copied them using my windows cd

Re: Help needed!! Bluescreens while installing any x64 OS, x32 works fine

Can you or have you tested your windows 7 install disk in another PC or virtual machine just to be sure it is fully functional?

All you needed to do after your BIOS update was move your OS Disk back to the top of the list in the Advanced BIOS page, Hard Disk Boot Priority. No need to have to go through the hassle you did, just some incorrect settings was all is why you got the missing ntldr

        Try these settings >>

Can you please link me to your memory? I can't find it online for sale or at OCZ

Hey thnx for the fast reply.. i'll try those settings

          i got my ram here
          german site -> ALTERNATE - HARDWARE - Arbeitsspeicher - DDR3 - DDR3-1333 - OCZ DIMM 6 GB DDR3-1333 Tri-Kit

i installed my windows 7 version already on my pc when i found out that 1 of my ram sticks was fried... at this point it was working with 4gb ram installed with bios settings at default
the bluescreens only showed up after i got them replaced "strange" :(

my hard disk boot priority was already set up to my OS disk which is strange, i double checked that and even loaded default settings =/

          Cheers

Re: Help needed!! Bluescreens while installing any x64 OS, x32 works fine

Thanks for the link! Wondered why OCZ did not list it?

Hmm, have you tested this new memory one stick at a time with Memtest86+ 2.11? Could be you received faulty ram again? Not likely though, probably just need to adjust some things as noted above

Hmm, odd to hear about your disk. Maybe something did corrupt it then? I just said that because often after a BIOS flash users do not check disk settings and that can be one of the error presented if the OS is not first in Hard Disk Boot Priority. Also, even if I mention that, sometimes users confuse that section with actual boot device order (First, Second, & Third) and think that is all they need to set first, which of course is not what I mean because that order does not matter

              Heya,
well i only did the memtest with all 3 of them installed, i can try testing them single tomorrow for a few hours.
maybe flashing did corrupt it who knows, anyway i got my sys running again thats what important right now ;P
i don't have time either to try the settings you posted right now, since time is running away from me and i gtg *gee*

thanks for the reply and i'll keep you posted

Well no need to do one by one if you did it with all three and they passed, but please at least do 5-10 full passes.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Re: Help needed!! Bluescreens while installing any x64 OS, x32 works fine

That is Stock spec for his memory so if it dont work he should RMA them, but yes looser timings can always bring stability

Re: Help needed!! Bluescreens while installing any x64 OS, x32 works fine

                      Hey its me again,

well i set up my bios with your settings and my system booted up fine

so i tried installing win7 again and well i got bluescreened again

so i changed my timings to 888-24 and tried it again with the same result.

i'm going to do a memtest with all my ram timed 888-24 till i'm back in the evening.. i think that should be long enough for a few runs
                      (i'll be gone for 5-6 hours :P)

if memtest doesnt show me any errors, would that mean that something is fried? well i'll tell you the result after the run.

                      cheers

How are you running that test if you can't install windows?

Please post your full settings, I see you have cache checked as the test so maybe your uncore or QPI is set incorrectly?
