GA-EX58-UD3R and 1600mhz Ram

Hi,
I recently just built my first computer and have encountered a problem of sorts. My Ram OCZ3G1600LV6GK is rated as 1600, but when in my motherboard it won't go higher than 1066. My mobo is GA-EX58-UD3R rv.1.6 bios. FB.

Looking through the mobo documentation it shows memory compatibility as 800/1066/1333/2100. I assumed (stupidly) that the ram would be able to downclock to 1333 but that isn't the case, it jumps down to 1066. Even messing with the bclk the bios will show a higher SPD but show the ram at 1066.

I've read in several places people stating they have this same ram (or just other 1600 ram) running at 1600 on the same mobo. Does anyone know if this mobo is truly capable of 1600 and what I need to do to achieve it?

Do you know how to get into your bios?

if so , then you need to adjust the multiplier to make it 1600.

Also check the Cas settings for your ram , and manuall key these in.

I have the same board, revision, and the OCZ Platinum instead of your Gold running at 1600. Set yours to 8-8-8-24, the SPD at 12 if I remember correctly, and run them at 1.64v because there is no option for 1.65v. Under Performance Enhance, it might be best to try Standard instead of Turbo. Then reboot, reenter into BIOS, and check to see if it worked. One thing I noticed is that if you have any of the power-saving features enabled, your memory won't be accurately displayed in say CPU-Z for example, so check it in the BIOS.

My bios won't give me the option for 12x on SPD only 8x. I have the latest Bios according to the official Gigabyte site (ver. FB). Is there something I need to do to enable 12x or a different Bios I need to flash?

Set xmp in the bios to profile 1 and your memory settings will get you 1600. Just have to activate the jedec settings for your mem.

I dont mess with the xmp settings, they are known to overvolt some components like crazy. Set your BLCK to 160, mem multi to 10x , uncore multi to 20x or 21x . This will give you the desired 1600mhz.

Or another combo would be a 200blck with a 8x mem multi and 16x or 17x on the uncore.

Darn mine is running at 1.65 volts for my Patriot Viper DDR3-1600 under jedec standards. It reads the standard for the mem configuration and sets it accordingly. Maybe you should read up on the jedec standard a little more. On the older DDR3 modules it would do that because of the voltages they required, on the newer ones it uses the voltages that are required. So if your mem needs 1.65 volts to get 1600, it would set it. If for example the new dimms need 1.3 volts to get 1600, then it would set it accordingly.

Under M.I.T. > System Memory Multiplier, you should have settings ranging from Auto, and 6.0-18.0. Select 12.0. 8 runs at 1066 and 12 at 1600.

The same options are available through M.I.T. > Advanced DRAM Features > System Memory Multiplier.
