Re: Any one here still with GA-N680i-DQ6 ?

Well look at it like this
The 775 cpu socket type is nearly 6 years old.(2004)
The cpu design type is near 15 years old if you take it that everything from the original 66-90 mhz pentium until cpu's before the i7 is really variations.thinner chips, more transistors, different pipelining, instuctrion sets etc..oh and grouping more pentiums on one cpu.

2nd quarter of 2007 manufacture isnt that old ,you probably couldnt buy the item until second half of 2007 and it would have been hot stuff in the cmas sales of early 2008.
My own "main system" is almost a year old now,the second half of 2008 but i have a backup pc which is 2006 and its not rubbish, tho it would be if i tried to sell it .

Today I received answer from GTS what they did discover via S/N which I have . So my mobo was bought by Polish distributor in August 2007 and never has been repaired by GTS .

Report from battleground - I downgraded bios from F6b to F4 and I'm able to OC my Q6700 to 3.2 Ghz (it is stable no BSOD at all - passed torture suite from Intel Burn Test 2.3) , problem is cold boot if I don't switch off my PC it works perfectly , also I use suspend S1 mode not S3 which I prefer , because from S3 my PC doesn't wake up also and I got cold boot .

Save your current bios settings in a bios profile.
Load optimized settings and see if you have any better luck with cold boots.
Note: You might need to set MCH Core and Dram Voltages after loading optimized settings.

            Good Luck!

One more question - could be changing CMOS battery usefull ? My battery according bios and HWmonitor is @ 2,99 V . Isn't it a little bit too low ?

So will they let you RMA the board or not?

Yes, your CMOS sounds a little bit low on voltages, mine is 3.248 right now. Of course they could all vary so not sure about what yours should be

Rather no chance for RMA in Poland , without proof of purchase :-( . Maybe I'll try contact with GTS again later ... . I will change CMOS battery but I have bad feelings about those cold boots ...

Well sounds like it may be time for a new system, 680i is pretty old anyway so you would enjoy something new

Let me explain : I used to use ASUS P5N-E SLI (650i chipset) mobo which support 45 nm Core 2 Duos but is weak for any Quads . Few weeks ago I just bought my Q6700 for about 166 $ . So when I found lets say on Polish Ebay called Allegro this Gigabyte mobo for about 80 $ I bought it rapidly - my mistake I didn't check users opinions @ internet :-( , on the paper this mobo rocks , isn't it ? !!! . I did diagonal move not forward :-) . Yes 680i is old but it has some advenages for me .

Ahh well not sure what to say about all that. I see your thoughts though. Maybe this board was damaged when sold on ebay??? Did you ever consider that?

So I'm back - it's 2 AM in Poland - I've changed CMOS battery voltage rised to 3,2 V from 2,99 V but main problem cold boots still exist . I've changed PSU cord no change , I still have cold boots + unworkable S3 suspend mode ... tomorow I'll check if my power buton is not faulty (I 'll try to start mobo with screwdriver ) .

You have tried a different PSU? Sorry if you mentioned that, I am in a hurry as I may have to leave shortly.

You may just have to live with the cold boot issues since the board is so old, I don't think they will spend much time in trying to fix the BIOS to address it

I found somewhere this procedure - could it be usefull for me ?

"Pull everything except the CPU and HSF. Boot. You should hear a series of long single beeps indicating memory problems. Silence here indicates, in probable order, a bad PSU, motherboard, or CPU - or a bad installation where something is shorting and shutting down the PSU.

If you get the long beeps, add a stick of RAM. Boot. The beep pattern should change to one long and two or three short beeps. Silence indicates that the RAM is shorting out the PSU. Long single beeps indicates that the BIOS does not recognize the presence of the RAM.

If you get the one long and two or three short beeps, test the rest of the RAM. If good, install the video card and any needed power cables. If the video card is good, the system should successfully POST (one short beep, usually).

Note - you do not need drives or a keyboard to get this far.

If you successfully POST, start plugging in the rest of the components, one at a time."

And I found this interesting article about cold boots :

                              http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f54/co...-you-1440.html

I've tested shorting mobo power switch pins by screwdriver - no luck it's not faulty switch , checked both 2 x 4 pin 12V connectors separtely - no luck , I've changed my graphics card power connector to another line in PSU - the same problem ... I'm a little bit pised off !!!

Re: Any one here still with GA-N680i-DQ6 ?

Right now I'm temporarily using my 2 year old N650SLI-DS4 mobo and also have cold boot issues. Warm boots and resuming from Standby = no problem.

My mobo is beside my computer case and is completely stable with a minimal overclock. Today I booted after I turned off my psu switch last night, and got the 3 long beeps loop. I finally got it to boot with only 1 memory module and verified that my bios was fine. I then installed the second memory module and had no long beeps, but still no POST. After several tries, my system booted.

I have another psu to test with, as well as additional memory to try. I'll let you know if I'm able to sort out this problem. One additional thought, my N650 has been retired for 7 months, when I replaced it last January with my EP45-UD3P. My first N650 mobo was great for one month until the bios ate itself. My Newegg RMA was painless, but the brand new N650 turned out to be a terrible overclocker.

FWIW, the EP45 mobo is a huge step up from the N650.
Right now I'm preparing to attempt a blind flash on my EP45 and possibly try the shorting the main bios boot trick, as it won't power up the mobo's fans, LEDs, or USB wireless unit. Same result with my other psu. Strange thing is if I jumper the black (#15) and light green (#16) 24-pin connectors, the mobo powers everything up as long as the jumper remains connected. The light show is encouraging, but it just sits there, no boot loop, nothing, using either psu. After reading the link you provided, I need to search and see what testing I might be able to do with the #8 (Power Good) pin.

Good thing that my P35-DS3L/e2140 "super slug" (75% o/c to 2.80GHz) is problem free. All my systems have always been connected to UPS units.
