  • Disappearing drives UD5

I just built my computer running vista 64, I am haveing problems with my harddrives disappearing and reapearing. Usually its just one drive but sometimes two. sometimes after sleep mode a pop up comes on as if I just pluged the drives in, kind of like if you put a dvd in the drive and it asks what you want to do with it. Any ideas guys? Thank you
    Shane

Vista right? Please go into your power options in the control panel, then advanced power options per the plan you are on and change the setting for your hard to to make it not allowed to sleep.

Do you have your drives plugged into the Blue Intel ports? You should. What BIOS?

what should the bios settings be for "sata raid/ahci mode" disabled, ahci or raid. Im not using raid setup.
What should the settings for Sata port0-3 Native mode disabled or enabled. I have all my hard drives pluged into the blue ports and the dvd and fesata in the grey.

          Re: Disappearing drives UD5

I reccomend not running ahci or raid mode, and have native enabled. this way it runs in an ATA SataII mode, on the intel sockets its very reliable.

            Re: Disappearing drives UD5

Black sockets? There should only be Blue (Intel) and White (Gigabyte/J.Micron)

You should have your hard drives in the first four ports (SATA2_0-3) and any additional CD/DVD Drives on ports SATA2_4-5

Your settings should be as follows for the above scenario with no RAID/AHCI

            Integrated Peripherals

            Intel Controller (Blue Ports)
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. Disabled
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

            Gigabyte/J.Micron Controller (White Ports)
Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Disabled or Enabled (Disabled if you do not use the White ports)
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE

I do also suggest you update your BIOS to the latest Version, here is a Qflash guide please do not use @BIOS

Latest BIOS (F8) can be found here, you may want to wait till later today as a Beta that corrects USB Keyboard issues (With the Final BIOS As of now) will be posted for your board. If you don't use USB Keyboards, or use USB TO PS/2 Adapters then no need to wait >>

              Re: Disappearing drives UD5

Sorry I thought you meant the power cables to the power supply. Yes the sata cables from the hdd are plugged into the blue sockets. Does updating the bios void the warranty?
              Thanks

                Re: Disappearing drives UD5

So you have your drives plugged into the ports I mentioned, by number as well?

Nope it does not void your warranty. Please DO NOT use @BIOS to update it though, please use Qflash. See my guide above if you need to know how that works

                  Re: Disappearing drives UD5

Yes I believe my primary drive (c:) is pluged into sata port 0 on the top of the board. Does qflash find the latest bios or i have to download it first then use qflash to install?

                    Re: Disappearing drives UD5

Download the latest BIOS manually, if you can wait a bit a newer UD5 should be posted shortly. As of now the latest final here has USB Keyboard issues >>
