  • EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

so randomly, but when it happens it happens for 20 boots or more, I am unable to get in to my BIOS at bootup by hitting DEL key. If I turn the box off overnight and try again, it works for a while then starts ignoring my DEL key presses again. I've tried 2 different keyboards and the results are the same.

This is with F5c and FC as well as the original OOB BIOS. Anyone else experiencing this or know of a fix?

    thanks

    Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

Have you tried using a keyboard with a ps/2 connection?
Are you testing with usb and/or wireless keyboards.

    The following steps might help:
    1) With your computer off, turn off the power to the psu by using the psu's on/off switch.
    2) Unplug the external power cord from the psu.
    3) Press and hold the computer case's on/off switch for 10 seconds.
    4) Leave your computer in this state for 5 - 15 minutes or longer.

You might have to perform these steps several times.

Yes please let us know what type of keyboard you have USB or PS/2 and please try enable and disable of Legacy USB Storage Detect in the Integrated Peripherals BIOS page if this is a PS/2 Keyboard. Ahh test that even if it is a USB One.

And as asked above, please give us your full specs and I'd like to see your settings incase you have a multiplier set in auto or incorrectly as this could cause many odd issues.

        Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

OK, I've updated my signature with my specs. I don't have any OC going as I'm trying to get the board running with the basics at this point. I've used BOTH a USB and a PS2 keyboard with the same results and yes, legacy USB is enabled. I CAN get to the BOOT MENU to choose other boot options, just not the BIOS settings.

This seemed to have happened after I switched the HDD setting to AHCI. There is now an AHCI BIOS that runs and that seems to be part of the problem. I am guessing that resetting the CMOS is the only way to get back to the BIOS at this point but that really shouldn't be the only option.

          Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

Are you hitting the Delete key the whole time the system is starting? Just press it a bunch of times while you see the initial bootscreen. Way before the AHCI BIOS and IRQ Screens.

Just saying that in case you are trying to punch the key only once and doing it at the wrong time.

PS/2 keyboard should be NO issues, and USB Shouldn't be with Legacy enabled as long as USB 1.1 and 2.0 is also enabled. But just stick to the PS/2 for now

If you still have issues, please update to the latest Final BIOS for your board, it was posted this morning (Be sure to choose the right version per your boards revision) >>

AHCI Should not cause you any issues with your keyboard, yes it will make the booting experience different than you are used to but you would hit the Delete key to enter the BIOS at the same time either way

            Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

Yes, I am pretty much hitting the DEL key every second once the PC powers up...I'll update to latest BIOS and see what happens.

I am already running the Fc bios so I'm at a loss now.

You might try and reset your comos and reflash your bios and see if that corrects the problem.

                  Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

I have the same board and in the bios somewhere is a place to enable usb keyboard support, cant remember off by heart.

But if you don't enable it you have issues getting into the bios, I had the same issue and had to use a old ps/2 keyboard.

Also once you have AHCI enabled you have to keep hitting the del key to get into bios, you actually hear a small beep when the system picks up when you have hit the del key. It's weird.

                    Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

yeah, I hear the beeps, I think that's the keyboard causing buffer overflow. I am going to reset the BIOS and try again so that being said, what is the best setting for a single SSD drive that I will use as my main HDD? Do I really even need AHCI enabled? I'm convnced that AHCI causes this issue so I just need to get the best non-raid settings for the SSD.

                    thanks again all

                      Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

Some SSDs benefit slightly from AHCI, like Vertex. I don't know how important AHCI is for your older Samsung based drive. For the newer Indilinx based drives it makes very little difference.
You should go to the Corsair forums and ask there what they recommend for your drive.
If you want to use eSATA you should enable AHCI either way.

                        Re: EX58-UD3R won't enter BIOS

AHCI is NON RAID so you already are using a NON RAID Setting. AHCI Is suggested for SSD, but you can use IDE if you like, not much difference anyway

Don't you have a USB To PS/2 adapter somewhere? If so use that, I use it on my USB KB/Mouse and never have any issues

I have both a USB and PS/2 keyboard and the issue is with both so not sure where this problem is coming from.

Hmm, well you shouldn't have any issues then. Can you please test if things are fine with no drives connected? Maybe your SSD or disk settings are causing issues somehow?

I would but that just doesn't make sense. This is the exact setup I've had for months and this only started after the latest BIOS update which is when I changed the SSD over to AHCI. I'm going to put it back to to IDE and see if that fixes it.
