  • Upgrading UD3R to UD4P, reinstall Vista x64?

Hello, I am upgrading my motherboard from an EX58-UD3R to an EX58-UD4P. Does anyone know if I would need to reinstall Vista x64?
If not, any tips to make the transition smoother?
Thank's for any help on this.

You may try this. I had a problem with reactivating XP and had to do a clean installaion, Microsoft support claimed it's because I cloned the disk (that was about a year before I replaced the motherboard.)

this supposed to save your programs/settings as they are, but you will have to re-update windows, including service packs of you don't have the latest service pack install disk.

If you don't have the latest service pack install disk you can create it yourself by applying the service pack to the original installation disk.
For exact instructions how-to google :-)

No, you shouldn't need to reinstall Vista for that type of change.

I second that. Boards are almost identical h/w related.
I've just swapepd my P45 DS3L for a UD3R and everything worked smoothly without reinstalling windows.

Thanks for the replies. New motherboard is on the way and I will update once I complete the swap. One more question though. Would I need to add more thermal paste or will the thermal paste on the existing cpu still be soft and pliant enough to reuse? Thanks again.

This is something you can answer after you take a look at the paste and entirely depends on the type of paste you had.

You should always clean old thermal paste from both chip and heatsink and then reapply fresh TIM. denatured alcohol is a good cleaning agent.

Just an Update. Recieved the new MB today and installation went great. I am typing on new system as we speak. I got some Noctua NT-H1 TIM and sone AFTA solvent. Old TIM came right off. I spread the Noctua with my finger and worked like a charm. System idling at 33c. So all is well. Vista started up no prob and I installed new MB drivers. Had to reactivate. Clicked activate and was done. Thanks for the help every one.
