  • 920 D0 Wall @ 3.8 on UD5. Would the Extreme be better?

I am in the process of building a new PC for my father. However, I was thinking of giving him my current PC which is the i7 920 D0 and UD5 which I have hit a wall at 3.8GHz Core, and 3.6GHz Uncore/1600 Ram - Good Air Cooling.

If I buy another i7 920 D0, would the Extreme version of the Mobo perhaps provide me better OC? Or is the Extreme really just the UD5 with a "Built in Watercooler?"

And if their are any other suggestions of Motherboards besides the UD5 or Extreme such as an ASUS mobo, please let me know.

    I really want to hit either 3.8 Core / 3.8 Uncore or 4.0 Core / 3.8 Uncore.

    Thanks all

UD4P / UD5 / Extreme are using same PWM circuity so I doubt you will see a difference, maybe something else is holding you back

      well i personally built an i7 system with a D0 a few weeks back, on a UD3R

got her pumping at 4.3ghz on 1.3v Ht on max temps of 78deg.

I think that there maybe some voltage/freq settings holding you back.

From what i have read all most boards can do a 200 Bclk and that should get you 4Ghz easy.

Have you read the I7 overlocking guide from gigabyte?

ill try and find the link, they overclock a C0 920 to 4Ghz.
