  • GA-EP45-UD3R (Vista Cant Recognize HDD)

    Specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz 3MB LGA775 BOX
    SEAGATE ST3500418AS
    GF9600GT-E512HW/HD/GE
    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R
    Antec EARTHWATTS EA-650

This is my first time to build/install my computer and im having trouble installing vista into my HDD. For some reason its telling me that it cant located my HDD. I managed to Format it through the command prompt last night
The HDD is recognized in the bios

I have plugged the HD to the first intel (Yellow ) Port (Sata Port 0) and my CD/DVD Drive is connected to an IDE (JRibbon Cable) Green Port

    In the Integrated Peripherals

    INtel Yellow Controller
    Sata Raid/AHCI Mode: Disabled
Sata Port 0-3 Native mode: Enabled

    Onboard Sata/IDE Device: Enabled
    Onboard Sata/IDE Ctrl Mode: IDE

Again the Bios sees the HDD and when booting the OS i can see the HD when i go to the repair feature but it wont recognize the HD when it gets to the select HD part of the Vista Download.

    What am i overlooking?
do i need to do something with the Harddrive, or is it a Bios setting problem?

AHCI is enabled, that's your problem, you don't have AHCI drivers to make Vista recognize your HDD. Install your OS in Legacy IDE mode, just disable AHCI.

Enabling AHCI after you have your SO installed, you should download Intel Matrix Storage Manager, install it, and reboot with AHCI enabled at Bios, Vista will boot without issues.

Im sorry im not following here:
You just told me that i have my AHCI Enabled.

But how did you know that AHCI is enable and where do i just enable Legacy IDE mode?

      Integrated Peripherals

      Sata Raid/AHCI mode Disabled
      Sata Port 0-3 Native Enabled
      USB Controller Enabled
      USB 2.0 Controller Enabled
      USB Keyboard Support Enabled
      USB Mouse Support Disabled
      Legacy USB Storage Detect Enabled
      Azalia Codec Auto
      Onboard H/W 1394 Enabled
      Onboard H/W LAN Enabled
      Green Lan Disabled
      SMART LAN Press Enter
      Onboard Lan Boot Rom Disabled
      Onboard SATA/IDE Device Enabled
      Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (IDE)
      Onboard Serial Port 1 3F8/IRQ4
      Onboard Parallel Port 378/IRQ7
      Parallel Port Mode SPP

Also when i go to repairs when running Vista, it locates my HDD, but the only problem is at the point where i have to select a HDD to install it doesnt show up.
