  • EP43-DS3L - S3 Sleep problem with high CPU clock

I'll start with my system specs:
    MB: GA-EP43-DS3L F8 bios
    CPU: E7200
    RAM:G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
    GPU: Sapphire X1950XT
    Sound: Creative X-Fi Fatality
    PSU: OCZ Powerstream OCZ520ADJ - 520W
    OS: Win 7, RC1 64bit

I've had this setup for almost a year now. I have it stable at 400x9 (3.6Ghz). Which is 36hr Prime stable, 24hr OCCT stable and 24hr 3dmark loop stable. I have no idea if this is a Win7 only problem or an XP problem as well since I never used sleep with XP. I would never have noticed it, but Win7 has Sleep on by default and after installing it and going to bed I got up and noticed the PC off. Moved the mouse and hit a keyboard button and it powered on and went into a boot loop. The loop is the same kind you would get if you overclock too far and it won't post. Except in this loop it won't recover with the backup settings and I have to power it down at the PSU.

At first I just disabled sleep, but then it started to bother me that I have a feature that doesn't work, and I wouldn't mind saving a bit on my power bill as well. So I started trying to see why it wouldn't work. A Google search turned up problems with FSB greater than 333 causing problems, but I found it to be CPU speed related more than FSB. Here's what I did at each step in my testing.

    1. Loaded optimized defaults. PC will sleep and resume from sleep no problem.

    2. Reloaded the settings below, but set FSB at 333. PC would sleep and resume from sleep no problem.

    3. Set FSB to 366. PC would sleep and resume from sleep with no problems.

    4. Set FSB to 388 (split difference between 366 and 400). PC would sleep, but when trying to come out of sleep would go into reboot loop I described above.

    5. Set FSB to 366, lowered multi to 7x and lowered ram divider so memory would run ~800mhz. PC would sleep and resume from sleep with no problems.

    6. Set FSB to 366, multi at 7x, set ram divider back to 2.66C. PC would sleep and resume from sleep.

    7. Set FSB 366, multi to 9.5X, ram divider at 2.66C. PC would sleep but would not resume from sleep (reboot loop).

    8. Set FSB to 400, multi to 7x, ram at 2.66C. PC would sleep and resume from sleep with no problems.

So the problem seems to be CPU speed related and not FSB speed. So far I've tried upping CPU voltage to 1.362, lower reference voltage to .807 and 2.1 on vdimm. I'm at a bit of a loss really. Somewhere around 3.5 seems to be where the problem starts. Everything else is 100% stable (Prime, Memtest, Intel Burn Test, etc). I'm thinking it's one of two things. Either I need to adjust something I'm overlooking, or the bios isn't quite polished with high FSB/CPU clocks (does anyone know what's fixed in the F9 beta bios?). Also S1 sleep works fine with any settings. If anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. Sorry for the longish post, but I wanted to be thorough with what I've already tried. My settings are below.

Re: EP43-DS3L - S3 Sleep problem with high CPU clock

Update. Tried f9c bios. Completely unstable.
    Tried 3.4Ghz (8.5x400) no go with S3.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
