hi everyone,
i've posted a couple of times in the beta bios thread regarding problems with my EX58-UD4P and trying to get a stable overclock which resumes properly from S3.
i found that everything before F9a would not reliably wake from S3 when overclocked. F9a seemed to be very stable coming out of S3, but then i discovered it was failing mprime at BCLK=166Mhz, cpu=3GHz and memory=1333MHz. at first i thought it was only failing after waking from S3 but it turns out it was failing even after a cold boot.
i have 12GB of XMS (9-9-9-24), and i did find that increasing Vdimm helped (it was actually failing memtest86+ without the Vdimm bump) but after that, even though it would pass memtest86+ fine, mprime was failing after 8 hours or so. then i found that it was even failing in the same way with optimized defaults loaded! so F9a seems to be kind of a non-starter.
so this morning i went back to the released F8, with bclk=133Mhz, CPU=2.66GHz and memory=1333MHz + 1.6Vdimm. it was pretty stable until sleep/wake, at which point the machine went completely crazy. one thing i missed though is that i didnt adjust the uncore multipliers. i dont know if the bios is supposed to take care of this when you change the memory multiplier or not.
so now i've loaded F7e and i'm repeating my experiments.
im expecting to end up down the garden path again, so here's the question:
if i want to OC and resume properly from S3, what's the best bios to use? does anyone have a good profile or detailed settings against that bios? i'm interested in ~3GHz + 1333MHz on 12GB of corsair XMS DDR3-1333 memory with 9-9-9-24 timings.
thanks.
