Lsdmeasap in his review of the Crucial Ballistic PC6400 2x2G memory said he could get 450FSB with 4-4-4-12
and a tRD of 8. What am I doing wrong? I can only get stable with a 5-4-4-12 and a tRD of 9.

    thanks

Re: 450FSB problems with Crucial Balistic

Even with identical hardware and bios setups, there will usually be minor variations.

    Lsdme states:
    2x2GB

444-12 tRD 8 with the 2x2GB also tested and is fine. I just cannot find my image of the HCI test. All settings were tested in Memtest86+ as well as said above. This was a initial test but I found them to be fine at 444-12 as well (Adjusted MCH Ref Voltages after this run, .76 % was too much, my motherboard/CPU needed .70 to run these 2x2GB at 900Mhz 444-12 tRD 8)
He was probably using the 2.00B System Memory Multiplier which should allow tRD = 8 at 450MHz.

A quick scan of both of bios templates shows some differences in the Reference Volt settings.

You might be able to achieve similar results by lowering your cpu speed to 440MHz, testing, and then increasing your cpu speed in small increments.

In the this post, you stated that you had problems when using the 2.00B multiplier.

I can't get 44412 to even boot currently but 54412 is fine so I feel your pain.

Going to work some more on it tonight so I will keep you posted...

FWIW, my P35-DS3L runs 4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix (2.2 volt) memory with 4-4-4-10 primary settings at 875MHz memory speeds.

        E2140, 75% o/c = 2.8GHz

Re: 450FSB problems with Crucial Balistic

          My own 6400 memory
          epp 800 mhz 4-4-4-12 1.8-1.9v
will run 450mhz at those timings at 2.1v.(B multiplier)
It will go a little higher at 4-4-4-12 but not much.

Customer experiences with the memory (from newegg) vary from 880mhz-910mhz maximum at cas4.
It doesnt worry me too much tho because after 460 cpu ref the performance drop switching to cas 5 is outweighed by the increased memory speed.
