  • First OC w/ ep45-UD3P and e5200...couple of questions

    Just did my first OC and had a couple of questions...

    1) I have an e5200 and I kept my multiplier at 12.5 and just boosted the FSB to 280 giving me a 3.5ghz processor. Is this OC just as good as if I would have lowered the multiplier to 8.5 and boosted the FSB to 400? I have ddr2 sdram 800 (4-4-4-12). My CPU VCore is at 1.30v and after 24hrs of stability on Prime95 I have max idle temps of 40c and load temps of 61c...too hot?

    2)

    As shown in the above picture my Vista 64 welcome center is reporting my OC'd e5200 at 3.33. Yet, in the BIOS I set the OC to 3.5 (280 x 12.5 multiplier) My BIOS were verified by CoreTemp (as well as HWMonitor and CPU-Z) yet the welcome center is showing 3.33.

    It's not a huge deal, but I am a perfectionist and I would like it to show my correct overclock. Anyone know what's going on here? I was told that this might be a Speedstep or C1E problem, but I can't seem to find that option in my BIOS to disable?

    12x280= 3.336
    12.5x280=3.5

    Windows just doesnt pick up the .5 multi:) perfectly normal and as far as I'm aware, cannot be changed unless you somehow manipulate the screen to show false information!
    61'c is not to hot.

      And including CPU-Z in Screen Shots that pertain to CPU speeds would be the most advisable thing to remember. That way, not only would ppl see the speed that Windows registers, but also something completely independent of Windows.

      Edit:

      woops. I guess you covered the independent thingy with Core Temp. sry WaltonsMountain, my bad.

        Okay that can't be it because I just changed my multiplier to 12 and bumped the FSB to 300 for a 3.6 and it is still showing 3.33 in the Windows Help Center....any other explainations?

        Also about question #1... is 12.5 x 280FSB just as good as 8.5 x 400FSB??? Is it faster with a faster FSB? I just don't see the advantages... can someone explain?

            Re: First OC w/ ep45-UD3P and e5200...couple of questions

            okay figured it out. For those that get this conflicting info...make sure you disable C1E and the CPU E1ST Function in advanced BIOS options. The Vista Welcome Center will then accurately read your OC, but only the stock multiplier.

            So for example, I had my highest stable OC at 12.0multiplier x 300FSB = 3.6GHz, but Vista read it as 12.5 (e5200 stock multiplier) x 300FSB so it ended up showing 3.75GHz...

            just for accuracy and stability issues I decided to take it down to 12.5 x 280FSB = 3.5GHz. Shows up in both. :) Hope that makes sense.

            Final OC (stable 24hrs in Prime 95)

            Intel e5200 @ 3.5Ghz (CPU VCore = 1.28v)
