Re: Gigabyte GA-EP45UD3P vs. Ballistix 1066..Problem!

Just RMA your Crucials for the new 2.0V rated ones. They work much better, likely your 2.2V ones are going bad or are not fully compatible with your board is all.

They have a lifetime warranty, and they will send you the new ones anyway if you RMA so you might as well send them off. Let me know if you need help finding the page for RMA there

The first time I asked them about this, they said no, they would not replace them with the 2V parts. But then I told them sometime later that my PC would no longer boot with the first pair and fails memory tests with the second most recent pair (both pairs are 2.2V 1066Mhz), giving the impression that at one time they did work (they never worked). They probably developed heat problems after a few months at 2.2V in my other Abit board.

Anyways, I just got the new 2V modules in today and put all four 1GByte parts in. I also added a GEIL memory module fan on top to keep them cool. The PC booted right up and at 1066 MHz using EPP #2. Running fine so far. Next test is booting from a cold boot. Will let you know how that goes.

Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction!

Yep. Replacing my 2.2V Ballistix sticks with the newer 2.0V sticks (4 x 1GB PC-8500) did the trick. I no longer have to keep my PC in standby mode in order to avoid the endless reboot/reset cycles. I can now shut it down overnight and start it back up again the next evening without any problems. And it runs at 1066MHz using 5-5-5-15 timing.

Nice to see your RMA went thru without a hitch! I think maybe you just mentioned things wrong to them the first time, or spoke with the wrong person, as they will change them out for you to the new models as you see. I don't see why any of them would tell you no anyway as the older 2.2V models are more expensive and use more actual chips so they would lose money in telling people no anyway.

Nice to hear you are back in business, if you need any help with things let me know

            Hello all!

I replaced the Crucial Ballistix sticks (4X1GB) with the Kingston 800mhz 4x1GB that I had in my HTPC rig (with ASUS M3N78-EM board) .. Everything works ok. My server is working without a problem with the Kingstons and the HTPC seems to have no problem with the problematic (with EP45-UD3P board) Ballistix. They both work fine. So I guess I will sitck with this solution.. I think RMA my Crucial Ballistix would be a long road problem..

            Thanks for everything mates!

Sorry for the long delay but I had to do a lot of stuff!

I returned the modules to the local store here in Athens, and they said that the one pair of memory sticks was faulty!!!!

They gave me a new pair of memory sticks but the problem is that now, I have two sticks working at 2.2V (the old ones) and two sticks working at 2.0V (the newer ones)...

So.. I am thinking of selling those modules via ebay or something..

Can I ask something? If I install those four modules, will they work fine? I guess not right? I have two modules at 2.2V and two at 2.0V.. so I guess that this is not a right synthesis...

Mixing memory modules is usually problematic, but not always. If your local store can't or won't provide you matching 2.0 volt modules, contact Crucial directly and see if they'll help you out.

The newer 2.0 volt Ballistix modules replace the older 2.2 volt models. While they both have nearly identical specs, they use different chips and really only share the Ballistix name, which represents Crucial's high performance memory.

                        Its me again !

eshop.gr (my local shop) exchanged my four Ballistix modules and gave me the privilege to take other memory kits (instead of those.. that are not working together..) so I picked up a Kingston 2x2GB kit (800Mhz) and I will do the job like this!

Im so satisfyed for this happy ending !

Those memory modules are CL4 4-4-4-12 at 800mhz ! And I know that they are working absolutely fine!

Thank you all for your help all of this months! Thank you.
