  • X58 Extreme - Max DDR3 Speed at 20/21x

    X58 Extreme with F6 BIOS
    i7 920 (D0 stepping)
    3x2gb G.Skill DDR3 20000 (F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD)
    2x 4870HD 512mb Crossfire
    1.5TB 7200.11
    800watt OCZ PS (80amps on 12v rail I think)
    WC for CPU/GPUs/NB

I have been struggling to get my system to 200MHz FSB and 2000MHz DRAM speed and 4000GHz CPU speed.

I've realized that the memory controller in the i7 chip has more to do with the mem speed than the MB... G.Skill is basically saying that their RAM does 2000MHz if the CPU FSB is at 143.. basically 14:1 ratio.. This would be fine if I was using an unlocked chip.

My question is what is the highest mem speed that I can get with the x58 Extreme - and which 3x2gb kits are known to reliably work at that speed with the MB?

    Re: X58 Extreme - Max DDR3 Speed at 20/21x

Are you using x20 multi for your CPU? if so, that may be the issue as it is very unstable.

I am not sure of which kits to advise, but I do think it is more likely your settings then the ram itself. Using the x20 CPUY multi is difficult to get stable as is anything over 4Ghz QPI/Uncore speeds so you may be RIGHT on the limit for either of those. See this post for more info on that, just as a heads up incase this is the issue at hand here. This post is about just your issue 2000Mhz ram speed so I bet it is right up your alley >>
Why is it that I cannot run my 2000MHz memory in my new Core i7 system? ~ XtremeSystems.org

What full settings are you using that fail, and also please post a second table of 190 or whatever under 200 you have stable so I can try to advise >>>

This is Just a template I use to ask people their settings, pay no attention to the numbers in it, replace with yours
