  • BSOD + rebooting after EP45 + RAM + GPX upgrade

    Hey Everyone,

    Im a first timer here.

I recently acquired an 8800gt for some gaming. Decided to upgrade my system to suit and possibly overclock a little.

Check out my sig for my current rig.

    I upgraded my PSU to a Vantec Ion2+ 620Watt

Upgraded Ram to 1066mhz Kingston HyperX

Upgraded my motherboard to Gigabyte EP45-DS4P.

After assembling everything together, I try starting up the system and it boots to the vista booting screen with the status bar for a second then flashes a BSOD and then restarts.

Ive tried the following with no luck:

    - Tried a different stick of RAM 1GB of DDR2 667 A-Data which i used in my previous system

    - reset the CMOS using the reset CMOS button on the mobo.

    - Updated bios to the newest F8 release.

Im really frustrated as to why this is happening. could it be a video card issue. I haven't installed the video card drivers. im using my existing HD, did I need to reformat it to use it with the new mothherboard/GPU??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: BSOD + rebooting after EP45 + RAM + GPX upgrade

Some or all of the following are probably causing your problems:
    1) bios settings
    2) chipset drivers
    3) software installation

I can't help you with Vista specific issues but the following will help:
    Bios settings:
Enter the bios and load OPTIMIZED settings.
Go to the M.I.T. section and follow the directions in this post.
    Chipset drivers:
Download Intel's latest chipset drivers for your system. Don't use the drivers on the GB mobo DVD.
    Software installation:
Download the latest software directly from the manufacturer. This includes GB software.

I assume that Vista has a SAFE mode option at start up. My procedure with a new mobo/cpu is to use safe mode and to delete or uninstall all software and drivers that are mobo/chipset specific. Then I'll do a normal boot and install all the appropriate new drivers and software.

      thanks for the reply,

turns out the 8800gt or new mobo had some sort of disagreement with the drivers on my hd. I just reformatted my hard drive and its working fine now.
