I'm not sure how to get around the problem of installing video drivers on a new system...

    OS: None Yet
    mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
    processor: Intel E8400
    fan/heatsink: Intel
video card: ATA Radeon HD 4850
    ram: Crucial 4GB DDR2-800 (2x2GB)
    psu: Corsair TX650W

Just installed the motherboard and components. Seems to power up, lights flash, hard drives spin up but there is no display. The doc's say that the mother board should detect the video card automatically.

What am I overlooking to get past this first critical step.

Do you have the ATX 12V 8 Pin Motherboard cable connected, and the 24Pin cable? And do you have the 6 or 8 Pin cable to your video card connected? Just checking, have to ask because you never know.

Can you try the card in the second PCIE Slot? If you have and still no luck please try clearing your CMOS using the method I outline here in Post #2 >>

Just so you know, this is not a driver issue, as the board will work (And windows will as well) without drivers installed

If you still do not have luck with anything I mentioned can you please test this card in another board?

Looks like a pure rookie mistake in putting together the case. I did NOT connect the ATX 12V pin Motherboard connector. And of course it clearly states in the installation instructions "If the 12V power connector is not connected, the computer will not start." My older motherboard only has one power connector so that didn't think that I need to do more than connect the 24Pin cable. RTFM

Thanks for stating the obvious to get me past this problem... Of course now onto problem # 2...

The machine won't stay on for more than a few minutes, and sometimes only for a few seconds.

Windows is installing, CPU fan is spinning, case fan is spinning and then it just stops.

Ahh, happens to the best of us!

Don't feel bad, just be glad you did not partially connect it or something like that and cause a short!!

Do you have the 2.2V rated Cruicial's or 2.0V ones? I can help with settings for sure, you may also want to check out my review on the 2.0V rated ones as I posted several sets of settings >>>

Main things you would need to do would be start by loading optimized defaults since you just built the system, then set your ram voltage ONLY and save/apply/reboot F10.

Then go back to the BIOS and set your SATA/Disk settings how you want them, then go into MIT and set MCH Voltage to 1.20-1.24 for 4GB and change Performance Enhance to Standard. That should get you going for much longer, then you can install your OS and decide what you want to do next

            Re: GA-EP45-UD3P No POST (Video)

It's the 2.0v Crucial memory. Oh the pain of it all. it has taken a quite few reboots to get the system set to

            Optimized defaults
            DRAM voltage = 2.0

I didn't imagine that this would be quite so challenging.

Finally got to add MCH voltage = 1.2

Unfortunately, the system still shuts down after a few seconds or a couple minutes.

Well it's time to get some sleep. I'll get at this again on tomorrow EDT.

Ahh ok. Well I just wondered, since it is the 2.0V ones I can for sure help from hands on knowledge.

So, if you need help with settings after trying some from my review please just post me the full settings you try that fail and I will advise back

Well, I'm pas the no POST (video) problem. I'm now trying to sort out stability. The machine starts, I can go to he BIOS Setup but the machine shuts don after a few/several seconds.

I'm assuming that this is some BIOS setting that is causing the instability.

                              Any thoughts?
