    Re: GA-EP45-UD3P No POST (Video)

If your video card is in the upper (blue) pci-e slot, set initial Display First [PEG].

    1) Turn off your computer and unplug the power cord to the psu.
    2) Remove the memory module from the #3 slot.
    3) Plug in the psu power cord and go into your bios.
note: some bios settings contradict your earlier posts.
    4) make the following bios changes:
Static tRead Value.........................: [8] <-- manually set this for both memory channels

    CPU
    MCH/ICH
MCH Core .................. 1.100V ......: [Auto] <-- manually set this to 1.22 volts (1.16 volts might be needed)

ICH I/O ...................... 1.500V ......: [Auto] <-- manually set this to the value shown in the bios
ICH Core .................... 1.100V ......: [Auto] <-- manually set this to the value shown in the bios

    DRAM
DRAM Voltage ............. 1.800V ......: [Auto] <-- manually set this to 2.00 volts

Verify that all the other bios settings EXACTLY match the settings that you posted. If not, the problem might be with the other settings.

Save settings and exit (still using only 1 memory module). If everything seems to be OK:
    repeat step 1
    install the second memory module
    repeat step 3
pray that everything is now okie dokie

      Re: GA-EP45-UD3P No POST (Video)

Just another rookie type mistake, but check your HSF to ensure it is actually making a square contact with the CPU.

Yeah, I did that once. The computer would shut off in a minute or less.

          Re: GA-EP45-UD3P No POST (Video)

Hey doc, I've got a major headache! What's the cure? (Doctor gives a heavy sigh and thinks "I'm a doctor, not a mind reader).

Well the rookie still struggles with the BIOS configuration.
After many, many reboots I have the configuration shown below.
OK, this doesn't sound good. What's the problem? Be specific.
Is your system still stable for 20 seconds or less?
Does the system hang? Auto reboot? Go into a reboot loop?
Has anything improved? You are still past the initial video problem, right?

Which bios version are you using?
You'll see the version in the upper left portion of the 1st boot screen, where the number you want to note is F6, F7, etc.

Does the bios look like this:
Static tRead Value..........#.......: [8] (note # = some displayed number)
          or this:
          Static tRead Value..........8........: [Auto]

          like this?
          CPU Vcore ...............1.#####V.........: [1.27500]
          CPU Termination ......1.100V...............: [1.20]
          CPU PLL ...................1.500V...............: [1.50]

          like this?
          DRAM Voltage ..........: 2.000V.............: [Auto]
          or this?
          DRAM Voltage ..........: 1.800V.............: [2.00]

I hate to be picky but accuracy is EVERYTHING!!!

Hang in there, we'll get you through this.
We need to get your system stable, then we'll get it spot on.

Post back with a detailed description as to what specific problems you're having. Please err on the side of too much detail. Others sometimes describe their problems as:
          -My system won't boot.
          -My system hangs.
          -It beeps at me.
          etc.

Stuff like the above 3 examples make me want to be a doctor.

            One more thing:

set the CPU Clock Ratio = 8

How many memory modules are you booting with? 1 or 2?

                  Re: GA-EP45-UD3P No POST (Video)

                  1. Press the power button
                  2. System powers up
                  3. BIOS screen comes up
                  4. I can edit the BIOS
                  5. System powers down in 5 - 30 seconds

The same happens if I don't touch the keyboard

Yes, I'm past the initial video problem.
Boot, enter the bios, go immediately to the PC Health Screen.
Watch and note the temperatures until it powers down.
What were the temps? Did any temps increase a lot?

By powering down I assume you mean that your computer shuts off completely, and that your system doesn't try to restart.

Check that your stock Intel heat sink/fan is fully seated. The push pin installation can be difficult to get all the pins installed.

Have you verified that all the cables and connections are fully seated?
Can you test with a different power supply?

The temp got up to 109C before he shut down. Doing little reading and this is way too high.. on to check the heat sink/fan...

Yes, two of the push pins were not full seated and I can't seem to get them seated. So off I go to my PC store to pick up another one. Any recommendations?

With a new heat sync and fan installed the CPU temp is in respectable ranges now. The system has been stable for a couple hours now. Looks like all is well for now...

thanks to all of you for your assistance

I'm glad you figured it out.

It's good that you finally did what I recommended.

Good info, but we were dealing with a rookie, and he probably didn't know how to properly check it out. Unfortunately, like many others, he didn't follow up with his results or didn't know how to do it.

In post #23, I posted details to confirm if the cause was very high temperatures. Maybe it was sheer desperation.
