  • Gigabyte EP45-UD3P MemTest86+ Fails Memory After 8 Hours

Hi everyone, I am running 8gbs of OCZ memory on my board. I had been having some issues that prompted me to test my memory for problems. So I ran memtest86+ and about 8 hours in it came back with errors (screens attached). I have 4 2gb chips in there all the same brand and type purchased individually.

I noticed that by default gigabyte in the bios has 3 options for DRAM configuration standard, turbo and something else. By default turbo is enabled and I was wondering if this could possibly cause Memtest86+ to fail.

Yes, I do advise you set that to standard. If you still have issues after doing that, please provide us with your full settings and we can advise.

Many things often need to be adjusted from the defaults/auto to run 4-8GB >>>

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P MemTest86+ Fails Memory After 8 Hours

thanks Lsdmeasap. I am just put the memory all back in and set the setting to standard. Odd that gigabyte sets it to turbo by default. Another day wasted I'll have to let this run at 10 hours.

      I'll post when its done.

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P MemTest86+ Fails Memory After 8 Hours

OK ran testing all of today 13 hours and got a failure with the standard setting in bios as well.

I have now tested 2 pieces at a time and not gotten failures when 2 chips are in. I have tested just about every combination but when I test 2 chips at a time I don't get the failure. What should I do?

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P MemTest86+ Fails Memory After 8 Hours

Come on, you can't possibly run this RAM at 1.8v hoping for 1066MHz error free.

Go to the OCZ website and look up the type of RAM you have and the voltage required to run the RAM at the spec'ed timing and speed.

HI lightfusion, wow no kidding? I usually just build rigs and run things at stock. Didn't think having 8gigs would mean tweaking the stock memory settings.

On newegg (ocz site isn't coming up now) it says the ram runs at 2.1 volts but why would the gigabyte bios only be giving 1.8 in auto mode?

Just jacked up the voltage to 2.1 in the bios with all 8gigs installed and running memtest86+ again. I'll be back to report, thanks again everyone :)

Yes for sure you would need to set 2.0-2.15 or so for your ram if it is rated to 2.1. Auto in the BIOS is setup for a Standard 1.8V (JEDEC)

I do see issues above, and think you will continue to have them until you start over. Please load optimized defaults, you are starting from Fail Safe now and that is a issue because many hidden settings, and visible ones, will not be properly set per your hardware.

If you are using RAID please see here for tips on loading optimized w/ RAID >>

If you are not, please load optimized defaults and then set ONLY your ram voltage and MCH Voltage then save/apply/reboot (F10)

This is what I would suggest for you for the above setup, do not use these settings until you have loaded optimized and save/rebooted (Except for the Ram and MCH Voltage)

Re: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P MemTest86+ Fails Memory After 8 Hours

Lsdmeasap, didn't see this post till this morning. MemTest is at 7 hours yet. Usually fails around 8 and something hours.

I made the change to the voltage: 2.1 and didn't change the MCH/ICH settings yet as just saw them. Should I stop the testing and do the load fail safe and the rest of the settings? Or is it safe to just finish up the tests and then make your suggested changes?

fcastro, et al - I have a very similar board (UD3R) with 4gb (2x2) of the same type of ram. With all settings at default / auto the bios automatically detects the ram and sets the dram voltage to 2.096v. That's according to the PC Health Status page, though the MIT page still shows 1.8v under the "normal" heading. It also automatically sets the timings.

I've run a number of different stress tests, some with the cpu overclocked, and I've had no stability problems. That said, try running memtest86+ with just 4gigs and see if you still get errors.

Hey all, well after adjusting the voltage to the correct 2.1v as my ram is rated and making the other changes ls recommended to mch etc I passed memtest86+ after 12 hours. So now I can continue with the OCing process.

Thanks to all for there help :)

Hey guys I went into EasyTuner6 after making all the changes and I checked what it was reporting for each memory slot. Is what I am seeing normal with slot 4? Tras is 124 while the others are all 15.

Specs don't look correctly at all. My memory is SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) yet easytuner is seeing it at PC2-6400??
