Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

Not sure about your prime question, you should run memtest86+ first for 5-10 passes to be sure you ram is stable then you would have a better idea, or run test # 5 for a hour or two.

What you could do in prime though is set it to small or large FFt's instead of blend, then if you get errors you know it is the CPU or NB that is causing the errors

No link to memory or model #??? I need that to be able to advise you about settings.

I can say you have way to much MCH I think, maybe +25-.35 would be fine, with +.1-.2 FSB

Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

      oops my bad!

      Memory: 2kits of Mushkin XP2-8500 2x2GB Kit DDR2-1066, CL5-5-5-15 (996599)
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 bios F7 (not sure which rev. will check when I get home)

      Moridin(EU)

P.S. By the way this is my second x48-DQ6 board and nothing has improved between the two (same with memory...2 of the this kit to start and replaced with 2 more kits...) uh the CPU is new as well...previously was Q6600 G0 now Q9550...

Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

So how did the test with 2 DIMMs at 1066MHz and the test with 4 DIMMs at 800Mhz go? Did one of the two NOT cause errors?

Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

2 sticks ran fine and 4 sticks lasted longer before errors when I upped the mch voltage to +0.05...will be raiding tonight so I won't have a chance to test anything else until later tonight

Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

How about 4 sticks at DDR2 800? I think you said you used the EPP setting so the RAM will run at 1066MHz, which is hard to get running with 4x2GB, 800MHz should be easier and you won't notice a performance difference anyway (see my sig).

Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

Thanks for the link. +0.05 is for sure not enough MCH

Try these settings for 8GB and see how you get along. If you have issues post back the exact settings you are using and I will advise back.

You mentioned Prime95, you need to be passing Memtest86+ for 5-10 passes before you even think about prime95, otherwise you have no clue if it is your ram or CPU settings. Just a tip

1066 with 8GB may not work stable without some high voltages, so as suggested above you may need to run 800 or so

Re: GB x48-DQ6 and my nightmares...

Testing with the following settings to first get into Windows for Prime and when I leave to do my shopping I'll setup Memtest which will run for several hours.

Considering my previous semi-stability since upping the mch I elected to use settings either in the middle of your recommendations or slightly higher than your lowest because some were already set to your lowest recommendation by default.

By the way...can someone explain Prime's Worker # to me? Does that refer to cpu cores or memory banks? Stupid question I'm sure :S

                    It's the CPU cores.
