  • E8400 E0 and GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R O\C help

First of all, I would like to say this is an amazing forum for Gigabyte mobo lovers like myself I am a long time computer user but a relative noob when it comes to overclocking. I have read some of the guides on this forum but I would like some expert advice on what setting I should try to use to overclock this CPU to at least 3.6 Ghz which is my goal. Especially on the proper way to set the CPU termination and CPU PLL in relation to the Vcore setting. This is the part that confused me and also looks like if you don't do it right you could fry your CPU in a hurry.

Here is a list of my components

    E8400 E0 stepping
    Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R mobo
    Corsair 4GB (2 X 2 gb) DDR2 800
    Xigmatek HDT-S1283
    EVGA Geforce GTX 295
    OCZ Gamestream 700W
    Thermaltake Armorplus case

    TIA

I posted my setting in this thread here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/stab...oltages-30561/

That should do you quite well except for the system memory multiplier. Since you are running 800 MHz memory, you'll be able to do a nice 1:1 FSB:DRAM to keep things simple.

    (G)MCH Frequency Latch.................: Auto
    System Memory Multiplier ..............: 2.00B or 2.00D
    Memory Frequency (Mhz) ................: 802

For driving strength, try 800 MHz vs. 1066.

    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
    G.Skill DDR2 1066 (2x2GB) 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0V~2.1V
    EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB
(3x) Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA II Drives
    CORSAIR 650TX 650W PSU
    Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case
    XP Professional 32-bit SP3

Stable E8400 OC - stock voltages
    Stable E8400 OC - 3.83

Let us know how you get on. It would be great if we can get more validation for those particular settings.

Used your settings Outer Marker so far so good! running tests at 3.6 Ghz will report back.

          Thx for all the help!

Oh yes! There are those lovely low temperatures we all like! How's that for "free" performance!

Oh yeah, going well ran prime 95 for 18 hours with no errors with a max temp at full load of 43C.

                    Very happy!

                    Thx

Hm, what are you using to read the temps? For 43C you usually need a very good watercooling setup at 3.6Hz. Check the link in my sig for more information about temperature monitoring.

                        Sounds good then for sure!

Ya, what are you using to monitor temps? I ask because it sounds like maybe you are looking at CPU Temps and not core temps. Which is what you want to look at, core temps not CPU Temps
