  • DRAM Voltage control has no effect on EP45-DS3R ??

I was surprised to discover that changing the DRAM Voltage Control in the M.I.T page of the BIOS apparently does not change the actual voltage - the sensor always reads as 1.792V whether in the PC Health Status page of the BIOS or the lm_sensors module under Fedora 10 Linux.

    Mobo is a GA-EP45-DS3R v1.0, BIOS version F10. CPU is a Q6600 at 3.000 GHz (333 MHz x 9), 4x 2GB OCZ Reaper HPC 1066 DDR2. Full BIOS settings upon request (and I'm sure Lsd will request!)

Id be suprised if your memory was running at a voltage that low, still i suppose it might.
Maybe you are using the "dynamic energy saving" (if the board has it) thing and its cutting down the voltage to the lowest the memory will run at?.
Mine certainly changes, try a utility like speedfan while the pc is running see what it reads.

I forgot to mention the RAM is currently running at 800MHz.

I don't run Windows so I don't have access to speedfan.

Re: DRAM Voltage control has no effect on EP45-DS3R ??

Does your system use anything to cut power use? Do you have EIST and C1E enabled in the BIOS?

That is odd for sure, did you flash to F10 or did you get the board that way? Did you load and apply optimized defaults after the flash or when you built the machine?

Yeap, you know it. Can you give us your full settings and a link to your ram or Model #

Thanks, Very odd for sure I say!

Re: DRAM Voltage control has no effect on EP45-DS3R ??

The board came with F10 - I haven't had to flash it yet. I'm running a Q6600 at 333x9 at stock VID of 1.275V with EIST and C1E enabled. 2 4GB kits of OCZ Reaper HPC 1066MHz DDR2. I haven't been successful yet getting the RAM to run at 1066, that's why I'm "underclocking" and trying to undervolt it. I haven't tried optimized BIOS defaults yet.

I haven't tried wine yet but I'm sure it will run. Whether it supports any of the usual Windows OC tools is another question.

More details will have to wait, I'm traveling this weekend due to a death in the family. :(

            Hi Chucko,
I've had exactly same issue with GA-EP45T-UD3P (DDR3). All previous BIOSes used to ignore my DDR voltage setting. Only the latest BIOS (F6 for my board) solved the problem.
Try to reflash and see can you fix it with with CIA2, EIST and C1E disabled.

Re: DRAM Voltage control has no effect on EP45-DS3R ??

I had a couple hours and figured this out.

I installed BIOS F11a, but it didn't change the behavior. If I reset to optimized defaults, I could tweak the DRAM Voltage and it would take effect. But if I set my preferred settings from there, I would lose it.

So I reset to optimized defaults again, and went through the BIOS settings one page at a time until I found it.

Turning on the Green LAN option disables changing the DRAM Voltage!!

This is repeatable - it is just this one setting that does it!

I think I need to file a bug report with Gigabyte.

I can file this report to Gigabyte as can you here if you would like >>

I will pass it along myself though for sure, I just posted the above incase you wanted to as well.

So, can you please sum up all the BIOS's you know this for sure to be a issue in? Or is it just in the last two you tried?

I will be sending out a email Sunday night, so if you want to test a few back you have time. If not, just let me know for sure which you know the issues are in and I will pass it along

This is definitely true and repeatable in F11a. I'm away from home for a long weekend (family emergency), so I won't be in a position to test this on F10 again until Tuesday.

OK, well since it is for sure in F11a unless they are notified it will likely continue thru to F11 final so I will let them know tomorrow

I have passed this along tonight and Collin says he noticed this thread on Friday and has passed it along already to the Engineers.

So I would think you will have a Beta to test sometime here shortly

F11b has the same problem. Enabling Green LAN disables manual DRAM Voltage control - it defaults to 1.800V.

Worse, F11b resets the system every time when it gets to the bootloader. I've reverted to F11a.

It should be 1.8V by default until you change it, but if you know that and have tested it all out, ignore me. Just sounded odd the way you worded that I guess, made me come back to edit my reply
