  • Beginner overclocking help required

Ok, I've searched the net for guides etc, and read some threads on here, but every guide I have read seem to make some assumptions that the reader has some understanding of what certain terms and options mean and do.

I have none. I just want instructions that will help me do exactly what I want to do with explanations so that I know what I'm doing wont screw something up.

I have a Gigabyte UD5 MB, F3 Bios. Not really interested in upgrading Bios unless absolutely necessary as I have read there can be issues caused if not done 100% correctly.

    Core i7 920 processor, 6 gig 3x2 Corsair dominator 1600mhz. I have a Noctua NH-U12P heatsink attached.

I am only interested in overclocking to somewhere between 3.4-3.6 ghz, so nothing huge compared to what some people are overclocking too. I have very little real idea about most of the terminology and what they mean (yes I have read descriptions, but they mostly go over my head) so if that could be taken into account in replys that would be good.

I was going to just increase the bclk in BIOS until it combined with the multiplier to reach the overclock I wanted, but I believe other tweaks are necessary? That's basically where I'm up to.

    Re: Beginner overclocking help required

There is not many X58 Overclock guides yet, everyone is on there own. So there is no exact things anyone can tell you

Yeap, you will need to raise your Bclk, set QPI Voltage and Freq to x36, set Uncore Multi to x2 Memory Multi, and then set your ram and CPU Voltages

Put performance Enhance on Standard, set PCIE Freq to 100, Disable C1E and EIST

Basically you are looking at making these changes, This will only have your ram at 1520 so you may be able to use lower main timings. Of course there are MANY other ways to run at 3.6, some will get you closer to 1600 ram speed, others not. A higher CPU Speed then 3.6 would make it much easier >>>

For 3.36 you could just use 20x160 Blck + 1 turbo, and x10 Memory multi for 3.36Ghz with ram at 1600 exact
