  • IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal BSOD on GA-EP45-UD3R

I keep getting this BSOD with IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal when I try to install Windows XP. I'm only using one stick of RAM to run the PC. I've ran hard drive tests and it shows no errors. The boot is on CD-ROM first. I made sure the RAM is securely put and the connectors are all on correctly. I've already cleared my hard drive before attempting to install XP. Anybody have any ideas what is going on? This usually happens after it formats my hard drive and asks what partition to put it in.

    Specs are
    GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R
    SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB
    Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V

DIAMOND XtremeSound XS51 5.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Your ram is sick id say? Your trying to install on a single drive system? Download Memtest 86+ v2.11 and boot that off the cd and run a few passes on your ram. It is also possible that this is related to your Video Card. Do you have another Video card to try? But run memtest first dude.

you have reformatted a couple of times?
If it isnt the memory(on that have you inserted all the recommended timings cas 6 and voltage?),It might be some plug in conflict.
I remember i tried loading xp on mine,(using vista now) and there was some conflict on usb ports and i got a bsod something like that one.
Im not saying it was the same.
I moved all my usb devices to seperate "rows".
mouse one is on front usb ,printer usb drive and even ethernet cable are on seperate rows and that fixed it.
I left them that way when installing vista.
Might be no help but wont hurt .

Google the error message! You will see that it can be caused by all kinds of devices, so disconnect everything that is not totally necessary (sound card, Front USB...) and see if that helps.

My guess is that the sound card is causing this.

Maybe you have old version Win XP SP1 ? you need least SP2 or SP3 to install again and see what happen.

Well I ran the Memtest and sadly the 2x4GB Ram I have did not pass and was given many errors. I suppose I should try my luck on a new set of RAM and return this?

If you just bought it, take it back and get an another one same brand or else you decide.

my recommended get this ram kits at 5-5-5-15 with 2.0-2.1 either one link below.

                Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

BTW, the lower cas is better, not like 6-6-6-18 (triple 6 evils)

Poonagez, do you have the the memory frequency, timings, and the voltage settings on auto? If so, manual settings may help.

Try manual memory timings and such as above first, if not take the ram back and get new stuff.

                      Re: IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal BSOD on GA-EP45-UD3R

                      Poonagez,

This could still be either a motherboard issue or a RAM issue. Run a couple more tests before you return the RAM.

First, test the sticks individually in the slot closest to the CPU. If one stick generates errors when you run Memtest and the other does not then you have a bad stick of RAM. However, if both sticks generate errors I would suspect there is a problem with the motherboard.

At that point you could test to see if the RAM works in one of the other slots. If the other slots are functioning then you can decide if you want to RMA the board or live with the limitation of not being able to use all 4 slots.

I had this same thing happen to me on my new build last month. I had major system instability and could not get an OS to load. I ran Memtest86+, got millions of errors, and decided to send back the RAM. The new RAM did the exact same thing as the first set and to make a long story short I discovered that the memory DIMM slot closest to the CPU was bad. Both sticks of memory tested bad in that slot and tested just fine in all the other slots. Had I thought to spend another couple hours running some tests I could have saved myself 10 days of waiting for the RAM to show up and another 4-5 days waiting for the new Mobo to arrive.

Well from what mrquick42 suggested, I was able to get my computer up and running. It seemed like the first RAM slot was also dead! I was also in the middle of purchasing new ram from newegg but I canceled it as I was reading what you suggested. Thanks alot man

But you have bad board as well as dead ram slot, take it back for replacement and see if first RAM slot works after exchange it, that is what you paid for that working perfect condition out of box.

if mine were bad as your, I will take it back to RMA dept quickly.

Well I don't want to RMA it since I might get a worse board and don't want to wait a long time as well as pay for shipping. Having a dead ram slot isn't as bad as it sounds, so I rather stick with this until I replace it again some other time. Besides I don't have the other equipment that came with the motherboard
