Re: help with a few things

    1. Most QX9650 (if not all) are the C0 stepping meaning that they pretty much never reach 500 FSB

    2. Don't know what you mean, but I don't use Memtest all that often and if I use it then from the Ultimate Boot CD

    3. That's the power circuitry vibrating, sometimes boards do that. I don't think it leads to the motherboard becoming defective though. Contact Gigabyte though, they usually replace those boards.

Re: help with a few things

Perhaps the disk controller the CD/DVD drive is connected to is set to AHCI? The bootloader on the Memtest does not support the AHCI mode. If this is the situation, the simplest solution is to configure the second controller to IDE (most boards have 2 controllers) and connect the CD/DVD drive to the SATA port associated with this controller.

Google Ultimate Boot CD, it's an .iso file you can download with which you can create a bootable CD that includes all kinds of tools, including memory diagnostics.

If you have a Vista DVD then try to boot from that and use the Windows Memory Diagnostic. I prefer that to Memtest actually.

Good info, I didn't know that!

I had/have the same issue. I assume you have a Sata dvd drive and you are using raid or ahci.

You have to set it to disable to boot memtest, then change back to whatever you were using to load windows.

I switched to a IDE drive since its doesnt have that issue

So do you still need help with 500 FSB? If so, I am not sure if those will run 500 FSB as said above, but I can try to help. Please post your full specs, and what settings you are using that fail and I will try to help you out. Please do link your ram if you can, if not model # would be fine
