  • E8400 + UD3P + G.Skills PC 8500

I have experience in overclocking CPUs but i never had so much problems with ram before, i really need your guys help.
My goal is to run 4.0Ghz or 4.25Ghz if temp isnt too high. Currently at 60c full load (but i found out today that i never pluged in my cpu fan power.)
I have it on 4.0Ghz OCCT and Prime small FFT both 8 hr stable.
But as soon as i run the Prime blend test, it gives me error within 5-30 seconds. I get BSOD when i play casual games like WarCraft3
The following is my spec ( copied from my OCN account lol)

    Settings look good.

Have you tried other RAM? If you browse these forums there are quite a few people reporting problem with GSKil 8500 RAM.

Will the RAM run fine when you don't OC?

btw i read on another fourm that says DRAM Termination shuold be 50% of the DRAM Voltage?
      So i should change
      DRAM
      DRAM Voltage ……....2.100V............:
      DRAM Termination .…0.900V............: 1.1v

        Re: E8400 + UD3P + G.Skills PC 8500

i tried it on 800 mhz with 3.6Ghz 400*9 and it ran fine.

          Re: E8400 + UD3P + G.Skills PC 8500

First thing I noticed is that th 1.3V Vcore is not enough, my E8500 needs 1.325V in BIOS already for 3.8GHz

About the DRAM Termination, to be honest, I haven't played with it myself yet. Check this out though, lot of good info's in their "living reviews"
          Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Living Review - Page 8 - Clunk's Forums.
Reading up on DRAM Termination myself now at the moment...

Also, what do you use to read the CPU temp? ANd you said you ran the system with the fan unplugged, was that at stock speed?

            Re: E8400 + UD3P + G.Skills PC 8500

            at 4.0Ghz 445*9 1.263v in windows
it went almost all the way to 70C but i have an ultra kaze at the back of the case i turned it up to 3k rpm and the temp went to 53C
until few hrs ago i noticed my cpu fan is not pluged in.

i just tried 1.365v and in blend test still fails within 20 second

              Re: E8400 + UD3P + G.Skills PC 8500

What is the highest clock speed that is stable? I'm trying to figure out whether this is a general problem or associated with the (relatively) high overlock itself. In the later case fine tuning voltages might help.

Maybe 1.365v still wasn't enough, some people need more than that:

i can only get 4.0Ghz to post, get into windows,Stable at OCCT/Prime, anything with 500 FSB simply wont go into windows, except if i'm lucky 500*8, but which is still 4Ghz

i'm gonna do a whole night ( its more like morning) of memtest, we'll see how things go with the ram

I'd first check if a lower overclock is stable. Lower the multi to 8 and see if that helps. keep the VCore at 1.365V though.
