• Please help with small overclock ep45-ud3r e8500 mushkin pc8500 1066

Hey I am a total newb who has been trolling this board for a few months now. You guys know your stuff and I have learned a lot reading through the posts.

I really just want to have a stable overclock of my cpu, 3.4-3.6ghz would be greatto start out. The computer has been running stable for a week and has passed all tests recommended on this site.

I have searched and have found settings for my board and cpu but I have not found any info on using pc8500 1066 ram. I am comfortable overclocking the cpu but I dont know what voltage to keep my RAM at. All of the posts I have found are using pc6400.

Please help, I know you guys are great at posting up recommended settings. Right now everything is stock except I upped the dram voltage to 2.06 but I dont think that is correct.

Thanks a lot for the help!

ok so with my ram the mushkin website says to run it at 2.0-2.1v , the ep45-ud3r's website says it has "4 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets". the board defaults to 1.8v stock. should I up the voltage to 2.0 or 2.1? or is there something else I should increase? thanks.

The reason im using 6400 mem is because my original motherboard didnt have voltage adjustment.so I got gskill which runs 800mhz at 1.8v.
But to your q.
I forget what 8500 multiplier is ,is it 8? 9 maybe?
Im very happy with my board ,you can see the specs it will run at stable in my sig.
I have a quad with only a 7 multiplier.
Im sure all you would have to do on your dual is to put in the cpu fsb speed for the cpu speed you want .
If its 9x use 400mhz fsb if its 8x use 450mhz.Leave everything else on auto..or actually since you have already changed the voltage on the memory put that at 2.1 volts.
If it doesnt work out .you can play around with the settings.
As long as you dont enter something like 2.3 volts for memory or for cpu over 1,5 volts(thats for a quad, dual s I dont know but i think the limit is even higher) you shouldnt do any damage.
Mch(northbridge) recommended maximum is 1.4 volts approx.

Quads get very hot on air cooling at 3.5ghz+ dual limit is higher i think.
But the mbrd is very forgiving .Maybe just ramp up your fsb 10 mhz at a time until you fail to boot into windows .
Then back it off a bit and you will know what you can reach on "auto" settings.
After that you can set your cpu multiplier lower and test your memory to see how high that will go with the cpu underclocked.
Once you know that, you can set your memory to 1:1 ie 2times the fsb speed and see how high the cpu will go(without going over the max memory speed.
Then once you know the cpu max ,you will have to back it off a bit so you can run stress tests, and make sure the cpu/mem/mbrd/chipset doesnt overheat.
Then you find your max stable speeds and maybe set it a little lower for safety.
Also if you do all your testing with the side cover off temps may go 1-5 degrees higher with cover back on.
That seems to be the basics.

Try the following settings, The ones in bold are the ones you should change. After savin, run Prime95 in "blend" mode for several hours or until it finds an error. If you get an error, try increasing the CPU VCore by ~0.01V. If you get no errors try decreasing the Vcore as much as you can so you still get no errors.

ok prime is running now. thanks for the quick replies guys. the only thing i changed was the cpu host frequency. you put 440 but 440 gave me 3.9 so I changed it to 400 ( i think, i know it became 3.6). only concern i have is that cpu-z is still showing the chip at 3.16

should I change any BIOS settings outside of M.I.T? anything i should turn off? the voltage does not seem to be taking even though it says it is 1.325 in BIOS

If your CPU shows up like that in CPU-Z you got something wrong with your OC Settings and the PC wouldn't boot so the BIOS reverted the OC settings to something that would boot, which is why your CPU shows up like that. Maybe print out my settings suggestions and make sure you set everything correctly.

And yes, I meant 400, not 440, I'll edit that in my original post.
